To the leadership of the Yeshivah Lubavitch of Lod,
may Hashem grant you long life,

Greetings and blessings,

I have duly received your letters of the 19th, 24th, and 25th of Tammuz, with what was enclosed.

You speak of the printing of a kuntres* containing Torah commentaries written by the teachers and especially by the talmidim* of the Yeshivah. Generally speaking, such collections are devoted to the commentaries of the talmidim, and the teachers contribute only exceptionally.

It is wise to publish such a kuntres. Nevertheless, one should systematically include in it a chassidic maamar* or a sichah*, among the texts more specifically concerning those who attend the Yeshivah. For one must not forget the purpose of a Lubavitch Yeshivah, as the Rebbe Rashab*[1] defines it. Consult, on this subject, the Kuntres Etz Chaim*, chapter 22 and in the addendum, as well as the sichah entitled "Whoever takes part in the battle of the house of David"[2].

You tell me that no such publication yet exists in the Holy Land. It seems to me that there is indeed one, called HaNe'eman[3]. In any event, it is good to prepare the texts of this kuntres. When one has a more precise idea of it, it will be the time to ask whether it should be attached to a similar publication issued by the Yeshivah Toras Emes*[4] or by the one here. For now, it is premature to decide.

If you wish to do all this discreetly, for the reasons you indicate, you may opt for this solution. It is indeed possible that your Yeshivah publish an independent kuntres which, in a second stage, will be attached to other publications.

מאשר הנני קבלת מכתביהם מיום י"ט, כ"ד, וכ"ה תמוז עם המצורפים אליהם...

בנוגע להדפסת חוברת ובה חדו"ת מהרמי"ם והעיקר מהתלמידים, הנה בכלל נהוג בחוברות כמו אלו שהם מוקדשים לחידושי תורה מהתלמידים, ורק במקרים בודדים משתתפים בה גם הרמי"ם באיזה מחידושיהם... כדאי הדבר להו"ל חוברת ע"ד הנ"ל.

אלא שמוכרח שיודפס בכל חוברת וחוברת איזה מאמר חסידות ושיחה (מאלו המאמרים והשיחות השייכים יותר לבני ישיבות), כי סו"ס אין לשכוח מה שכותב כ"ק אדמו"ר (מוהרש"ב) נ"ע ע"ד תכלית ישיבות תו"ת, ויעויין קונטרס עץ החיים פרק כב והוספה שם. שיחת כל היוצא למלחמת ב"ד. (מה שכותבים שעד עתה לא הופיעה חוברת כזו בארץ, כמדומה מופיעה ושמה הנאמן), בכ"א כדאי להכין חומר בשביל חוברת הנ"ל.

וכשיהי' קרוב יותר לפועל, אפשר יהי' להחליט אם לאחדה עם [...] ענין כזה דישיבת תורת אמת ואולי גם דהישיבה כאן, אבל עוד מ[וקדם] הזמן להחליט בזה, ובמילא - אם רצונם לעשות בזה בחשאי, מפני הטעם שכותבים, יעשו באופן כזה, כיון שאפשר גם שבתחלה תפרסם הישיבה שלהם חוברת בפ"ע ואח"כ יצרפוה לחוברות אחרות.
