Greetings and blessings,

I have just received your letter, asking me for a blessing for your father, who has a dispute regarding an inheritance[1]. When I find myself near the tziyun* of my father-in-law, the Rebbe, leader of Yisrael, whose merit shall protect us, I will mention his name, so that he may secure his livelihood in abundance.

I am surprised that you do not give me your father's name and that of his mother. You will do so on the next occasion. I am also astonished that you do not mention your study of the revealed part of the Torah and of Chassidus*. Our Sages say that a son confers merit upon his father. Now, you wish that he should know success in this matter[2], as well as in other domains. That is why you write to me. How much more, then, must you yourself make efforts in this domain.

For this, you must progress in the three domains that are the pillars upon which the world rests, in general, and the "small world" that man constitutes — that is, Torah, the service of Hashem, corresponding to tefillah*, and good deeds, namely virtuous conduct.

More precisely, in this case, it concerns an inheritance, and your efforts must therefore bear upon what we say daily in tefillah: "How beautiful is our heritage." You no doubt know that this expression alludes to faith, to the love of Hashem, hidden in everyone, which also includes fear. This is what our forefathers bequeathed to us, as the Tanya* explains at length.

May Hashem grant you success, may He strengthen you and enable you to redouble your ardor in your daily avodas Hashem*, in all that concerns the love of your fellow, the love of Torah, and the love of Hashem, blessed be He.

זה עתה נתקבל מכתבו בו מבקש ברכה עבור אביו שיש לו סכסוך בענין ירושה, וכשאהי' על הציון הק' של כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר זצוקללה"ה נבג"מ זי"ע נשיא ישראל אזכיר את אביו שי' לפרנסה בהרחבה. ולפלא שאינו כותב שם אביו בצירוף שם אמו - של אביו - אשר בטח ימלא בהזדמנות הבאה. ועוד פלא שאינו כותב דבר אודות לימודו הוא הן בתורת הנגלה והן בתורת החסידות אשר ע"פ מרז"ל ברא מזכה אבוה מובן אשר כשמשתדל בהצלחת אביו בהנ"ל ובשאר ענינים ע"י כתיבת מכתב אלי הרי עאכו"כ שצריך הוא לעשות בזה ככל יכולתו וזהו ע"י שיעלה בעבודתו בשלשת העמודים שעליהם העולם (קטן זהו האדם) עומד, תורה, עבודה (תפלה) וגמילות חסדים (מדות טובות) ובפרטיות כיון שהדבר נוגע לירושה, צריך להשתדל בהענינים שעליהם אנו אומרים בכל יום בתפלה "מה יפה ירושתינו" שבטח ידוע לו שבעיקר זהו ענין האמונה והאהבה המוסתרת אשר גם דחילו נכלל בה שזה לנו ירושה מאבותינו כמבואר בתניא באריכות. והשי"ת יצליחו אשר יתחזק ויוסיף אומץ באהבת ישראל אהבת התורה ואהבת השם יתברך ויתעלה בעבודתו בכל יום ויום.
