Greetings and blessings,

I was pained to learn that you are once again suffering from your foot. You are being followed by a doctor and you will surely conform to his prescriptions. But do not pay so much attention to all this as to be embittered by it.

You know the saying of the Tzemach Tzedek*, commenting on the statement of our Sages that the doctor has been authorized to heal. He emphasizes that, by contrast, a doctor is not authorized to utter a harsh word. I await good news from you on this subject and thank you in advance.

I enclose the kuntres* that has just appeared. I have already written[1] that in this month[2] the destruction was the work of Kamtza and Bar Kamtza, who showed sinas chinam*. To repair all this, one must go to the other extreme, as the Rambam* writes in the second chapter of his Hilchos De'os* — that is, to love one's fellow with ahavas chinam*.

But this love is causeless only by the criteria of rationality. For the Torah, for its part, demands that one love every Jew, as chapter 32 of Tanya* and the Sefer HaMitzvos*, on the mitzvah of loving one's fellow, explain.

Thus Hashem will take us into His grace and free us from galus*. For "you were sold[3] for nothing." Consequently, "it is not with money that you will be redeemed."

מוסג"פ הקונטרס שהו"ל, וכבר כתבתי שבחדש זה שהקלקול בא ע"י אקמצא ובר קמצא שנאת חנם הנה התיקון לזה הוא לאחוז בקצה השני (ע"פ מ"ש הרמב"ם בהלכות דיעות פ"ב) היינו באהבת ישראל אהבת חנם (חנם ע"פ שכל האנושי כי ע"פ תורה צריך לאהוב את כל אחד מישראל ע"פ המבואר בתניא פל"ב ובספר המצות להצ"צ מצות אהבת ישראל וכו') ואזי יחננו השי"ת ויוציאנו מהגלות אשר חנם נמכרתם ובמילא ולא בכסף תגאלו.
