To our friend, remarkable young man, Rav Menachem Zeev Gringlass, Montreal,
I greet you and bless you,
We have received your two letters and thank you for them. You have no doubt yourself received the Chassidic discourses and the booklets that we sent you.
Enclosed with this letter, we are sending you a clipping from the "Morgen Journal," in which there is an article about Machane Yisrael*.
The month of Elul and the High Holidays are particularly propitious for conducting a campaign in the spirit of the activities of Machane Yisrael. You will therefore endeavor to have this article or a similar text printed in the "Canadian Eagle."
We have good hope that you will set to work, as well as your friends, with enthusiasm, in all areas of activity of Machane Yisrael, for this is a necessity and Hashem will come to your aid. I will describe here the broad outlines of this important mission:
1) You will post on the walls of the synagogues the explanation given on the last day of Pesach*[2]. It would also be good to disseminate it, at least partially, in the newspapers, before Rosh Hashanah*.
2) You will send letters explaining what the Tehillim* groups[3] are to all the synagogues of your country. In those where you have friends, you will also enclose a letter that you will write yourself.
3) You will propagate the idea that one must purify the atmosphere by reciting, in every place, texts of the Torah that one learns by heart, in particular from the Mishnah*.
4) During the days of Selichos* and the Ten Days of Teshuvah* that are approaching, you will speak in the synagogues, issue calls to Teshuvah, explain that we are currently enduring the birth pangs of Moshiach*, that the redemption will be immediate if the Teshuvah is immediate.
Of course, all of this must be adapted to the conditions of the country and the place and I leave it to your judgment.
If it can be useful, you will mention the address of the branch of Machane Yisrael in your country. It is preferable that this address be different from that of the Yeshiva, in order to show that this activity is in no way linked to a particular group. You yourself are hereby appointed director of the executive committee of Machane Yisrael in your country. Nevertheless, it is preferable that each person be in direct contact with here, so that every difficulty be immediately submitted to my father-in-law, the Rebbe shlita.
We are preparing a collection of letters from the Rebbe shlita, which will address these subjects. As soon as it is published, we will send it to you and you will kindly tell me how many copies I should send you.
With my blessing to be inscribed and sealed for a good year, for immediate redemption and immediate Teshuvah. You will convey to your friends my greetings and my wishes for a good year,

[1] Starting from this one, a great number of the letters presented were written on letterhead of Machane Yisrael or of the Merkaz LeInyonei Chinuch. They are therefore often written in the first person plural and signed "the director of the executive committee," since the Rebbe directed both of these institutions simultaneously. The issuing institution will be specified whenever it is known. Starting from 5703-1943, certain letters also originated from the Kehot* publishing house, also directed by the Rebbe. These letters were typewritten and signed by the Rebbe's hand, after having indicated "Rav Menachem Schneerson."

את שני מכתביו קבלנו בתודה, ובודאי קבל כבר המאמרים והקונטרסים ששלחנו לו.
בצרוף למכתבנו זה שולחים אנלו קטע מה"מארגען זשורנאל" אשר בו מאמר ע"ד עבודת "מחנה ישראל".
באשר ימי אלול והימים הנוראים הבע"ל ראויים ביותר לנהל בהם תעמולה ע"ד עניני הרוח אשר עוסק בהם "מחנה ישראל", יואיל נא להשתדל שכבר בימים אלה יהי' המאמר המצורף הנ"ל, או מעין מאמר כזה, מודפס בעתון "הנשר הקנדי".
תקותנו חזקה שכבודו יחד עם חבריו שי' יתחילו תיכף בעבודה נמרצה בכל מקצועות "מחנה ישראל", כי עת לעשות היא, וה' יהי' בעזרם. ואציין כאן ראשי-פרקים בעבודה חשובה זו:
א) להדביק על כתלי בתי-הכנסיות את הר"ד של אחרון של פסח. - מה טוב אם קודם ר"ה ידפיסו כלו או קטע מהר"ד בעתון;
ב) לשלוח המכ' ע"ד חברות-תהלים לכל הבכנ"ס בכל מדינתם. בבתי הכנסת שיש להם מכירים כדאי לצרף גם מכתב פרטי מכם.
ג) להפיץ רעיון טהרת האויר ע"י חזרת אותיות התורה בע"פ בכל מקום, ובפרט משניות בע"פ.
ד) להשתמש בימי הסליחות ועשי"ת הבע"ל בתעמולה בביהכנ"ס וכיו"ב,
בהתעוררות תשובה, בהודעה שזהו זמן חבלי משיח ולאלתר לגאולה ע"י לאלתר לתשובה וכה"ג.
כמובן שכל זה צריך להתאים לתנאי מדינתם ומקומם, ואל בינתם נשען.
אם תהי' תועלת עי"ז לעבודתם, יוכלו להודיע שבמדינתם סניף מחנה-ישראל נמצא ע"פ האדריסה... (אם באפשר שלא יהי' במעון הישיבה מה טוב. כדי להדגיש שאין זה ענין של מפלגה כלל וכלל ) ולב"כ ועה"פ של מחנה ישראל במדינתם נתמנה כת"ר. אף שבכלל טוב שיהי' קשור מכאו"א ישר לכאן, שאז כל דבר הקשה אפשר לברר תיכף אצל כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר שליט"א.
מכינים אנו קובץ מכ' כ"ק אדמו"ר שליט"א בכהנ"ל, ותיכף כשיודפס נשלח לו, ויודיע כמה עקז' נשלח.

מצילום האגרת. מכאן ואילך נכתבו אגרות רבות על ניר המכתבים של "מחנה ישראל" או "מרכז לעניני חנוך", שלכן הסגנון הוא לפעמים בלשון רבים ולכן החתימה היא בסתם "יו"ר ועד הפועל". למען השלימות יצוין בכל מקום מאיזה מוסד נשלחה האגרת.
משנת תש"ג ואילך (ראה לקמן אגרת פט) גם של "קה"ת". האגרות נכתבו בד"כ במכונת כתיבה. לפני תואר הנ"ל נכתב, במכונת כתיבה, שמו הקדוש בהוספות "הרב", ומעל זה באה חתימת יד קדשו. במקום שהועתק מהאגרת שנשלחה נעתקה החתימה ככתבה ובמקום שהועתק מהעתק המזכירות נעתקה ככתוב במכונת הכתיבה.
