and devotes himself to communal needs,

Greetings and blessings,

I have duly received your letter of Tuesday of parshas Shoftim, which was particularly concise. In accordance with your request, I also enclose a receipt[2].

We arrive at Elul, the month of mercy, and I therefore enclose the sichah*[3] of a Shabbos* on which the month of Elul was blessed. It was not delivered this year, but its content remains valid every year and throughout the year, all the more so as the name of Elul is composed of the initials of the words forming the verse: "Hashem your Elokim* will circumcise your heart and the heart" of your offspring[4], which alludes to teshuvah*; the verse: "I am to my Beloved and my Beloved is to me," which introduces tefillah*; the verse: "He let it come about by his hand, and I shall set you a place to which he may flee," which corresponds to Torah; the verse: "the sending of portions, one to his fellow, and gifts to the poor," which symbolizes tzedakah*.

My introduction to the Kuntres of 18 Elul 5710[5] explains all this. You will make the content of this kuntres* available to as many people as possible, in the proper way.

With my blessing that you be inscribed and sealed for a good year, together with your wife — which, of course, also includes good health,

ובאשר נכנסים אנו בחדש אלול חדש הרחמים הנה מוסג"פ שיחת ש"ק מברכים אלול אשר אף שנאמרה לא בשנה זו אבל זמנה הוא בכל שנה ושנה כל השנה ובפרט בימי אלול ר"ת ומל ה"א א ת ל בבך ו את ל בב זרעך - תשובה, א ני ל דודי ו דודי ל י - תפלה, והאלקים א נה ל ידו ו שמתי ל ך מקום אשר ינוס שמה - תורה, ומשלוח מנות א יש ל רעהו ו מתנות ל אביונים - צדקה. וכמבואר בהקדמתי לקונטרס ח"י אלול תש"י ובטח יזכה בתוכנה את הרבים באופן המתאים.

בברכת כוח"ט לשנה טובה לו ולזוגתו תחי' ופשיטא אשר ביראות הנכונה בכלל זה.
