To the rav, distinguished chassid who fears Hashem
and devotes himself to communal needs,
Rav Yehudah Tzvi[1],
Greetings and blessings,
I am responding to your letter, in which you inform me that you will celebrate your birthday this Shabbos.
You no doubt know the practices connected to a birthday[2] — being called up to the Torah, giving tzedakah* before tefillah*, on the eve of this birthday when it is a Shabbos*, the study of Chassidus* and its public recitation, to the extent possible.
For those who have had the privilege[3] of seeing the face of my father-in-law, the Rebbe, whose merit shall protect us, it is also fitting to seclude oneself for a moment, as HaYom Yom* states for the date of 11 Nisan, and to picture mentally, in thought, one of the audiences he granted — what was asked of him and what he answered. Then one will study his teaching.
May Hashem grant you long days and good years, and success in your sacred mission. You and your wife will lead your children to Torah, to the chuppah*, and to good deeds, in true abundance.
With my blessing that you be inscribed and sealed for a good year,

במענה על מכתבו בו מודיע מיום הולדת שלו בש"ק הבע"ל.
בטח ידועים לו סדרי יום הולדת, בעלי' לתורה, נתינת צדקה קודם התפלה (אם חלה בש"ק - ביום שלפני זה), לימוד וחזרת דא"ח ברבים אם באפשרי.
ובנוגע לאלו שזכו לראות את פני כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר זצוקללה"ה נבג"מ זי"ע הנה מתאים להמועתק בהיום יום י"א ניסן להתבודד לשעה ולצייר במחשבתו ובמוחו אחת היחידות מה ששאל ומה שענו לו ואח"כ ללמוד מתורתו.
ויתן השי"ת ויהי' לאריכות ימים ושנים טובות ובהצלחה בעבודתו בקדש והוא וזוגתו שיחיו יגדלו את כל ילידיהם שיחיו לתורה ולחופה ולמעשים טובים מתוך הרחבה אמיתית.
