To the Chabad chassidim who are in Eretz HaKodesh*
and, in particular, to …[1],
may Hashem grant them long life,

Greetings and blessings,

I have duly received your letter, in which you propose that I visit the places where you are settled, to see and observe what is happening there.

But what can I do? Various veils, obstacles, hindrances and impediments, material and spiritual, unfortunately do not give me the possibility of acceding to this request, however good and positive. May Hashem cause the barriers to disappear, in general and these in particular, that we may meet on joyous occasions.

I enclose for you the kuntres* edited on the occasion of the coming 18 Elul, which has just appeared. No doubt you will study it, each individually, then all together, with the proper depth.

May Hashem grant that each one of us vivify all the domains of avodas Hashem* of this month of mercy[2] — that is, teshuvah*, "And Hashem your Elokim* will circumcise your heart and the heart of your offspring"; Torah, "He let it come about by his hand, and I shall set you a place"; the service of Hashem, "I am to my Beloved and my Beloved is to me"; and good deeds, "the sending of portions, one to his fellow, and gifts to the poor"[3].

In accordance with the saying of my father-in-law, the Rebbe, whose merit shall protect us, a reflection of all the festivals shines on every day. So shall it be, throughout the year, which, in this way, shall be good and sweet, materially and spiritually at once.

Wishing you and myself to be inscribed and sealed for a good and sweet year,

מאשר הנני בזה קבלת מכתבם הצעה לבוא לבקר במקומות מושבותיהם לראות ולראות וכו'.

ומה אעשה ולצערי, הנה כמה העלמות והסתרים מניעות ועיכובים הן בגשמיות והן ברוחניות למילוי ענין זה הראוי והטוב ומי יתן ויסיר השי"ת את ענין ההעלמות והסתרים בכלל והעלמות והסתרים הנ"ל בפרט, ונתראה בשובע שמחות.

מוסגר פה הקונטרס לח"י אלול הבע"ל שזה עתה הו"ל אשר בטח ילמדו אותו ביחיד וברבים בעיון הדרוש והשי"ת יזכה את כל אחד ואחד מאתנו להכניס את החיות בכל עניני עבודת חדש רחמים זה היינו בתשובה "ומל ה"א את לבבך ואת לבב זרעך", תורה "והאלקים אנה לידו ושמתי לך מקום" עבודה "אני לדודי ודודי לי" וגמילות חסדים "ומשלוח מנות איש לרעהו ומתנות לאביונים".

ועל פי פתגם כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר זצוקללה"ה נבג"מ זי"ע, אשר הארת כל המועדים מאירה בכל יום הנה יומשך זה ג"כ על כל השנה כולה שבדרך ממילא תהיה שנה טובה ומתוקה בגשמיות וברוחניות גם יחד.

המברך ומתברך בברכת כתיבה וחתימה טובה לשנה טובה ומתוקה.
