Greetings and blessings,

You tell me that the situation of the yeshivah* has not yet been clarified. In my view, this is not accurate. It has been established, for a very long time, that the teaching of the Baal Shem Tov* and all that concerns it must be disseminated outward.

It is therefore inconceivable that there be a corner of the globe where Bnei Yisrael* are found and where this teaching does not reach, in the precise form desired by the Baal Shem Tov and his successors, the masters of Chabad — that is, in such a way that the teaching and life form, in daily practice, only one and the same entity.

My father-in-law, the Rebbe, has many times told us that we are living in the period of the heels of Mashiach*, who "stands behind our wall" and awaits the transformation of the few last elements that still remain.

The study of Chassidus* is therefore indispensable in your city, not only among the chassidim who have come from Russia and settled there, but also on the part of the residents of that place, the Bnei Yisrael who are there. Since this is a necessity, you will surely find the means to obtain such a result.

It is unnecessary to specify that the building of the yeshivah, to the extent that it makes a good impression, ought to become the center of all that concerns Chabad — that is, a place of Torah, of tefillah*, of chassidic celebrations, of gatherings. Of course, all these activities must not contradict the studies. Nevertheless, it is certain that all activities can be concentrated in this building.

Experience has shown that organizing such activities constitutes a support for the yeshivah.

[כ"א אלול תשי " ג ]

...ומ"ש אשר מצב הישיבה אי מבורר עדיין כו' וכו'. הנה לדעתי אינו כן, כי ברור הוא מכמה זמן, אשר תורת הבעש"ט ועניני' צריך להתקיים בהם שיפוצו חוצה, ובמילא אי אפשר שתהי' פנה בכדור הארץ בה נמצאים מבני ישראל - שלא תבא לשם תורה זו, ודוקא כפי רצון הבעש"ט וממלאי מקומו נשיאי חב"ד, שתהי' התורה והחיים חד, היינו בחיי היום יומיים. וכיון שכמה פעמים שמענו מכ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר, אשר נמצאים אנו בעקבתא דמשיחא, שהוא עומד אחר כתלנו ומחכה לבירור הפכים קטנים הנשארים, הרי מוכרח שגם ב... יהי' לימוד החסידות ולא רק בין אנ"ש דרוסיא אשר הם נשלחו לשם, אלא שיחדור זה בתושבי הארץ, היינו בני ישראל תושבי... וכיון שהדבר מוכרח, בודאי ימצאו כל הדרוש לזה. ובודאי למותר להעיר, אשר כיון שהבנין של הישיבה עושה רושם טוב, צריך הי' להשתדל שיעשה בכלל מרכז לעניני חב"ד, היינו מקום תורה מקום תפלה מקום התועדות אסיפות וכו'. מובן שכל הנ"ל אמור - באופן שלא תהי' סתירה להלימודים, אבל בודאי יש מקום וזמן לכל הענינים בבנין זה. וכבר הראה החוש שזה שיהי' שם גם הענינים האחרים הנ"ל, בודאי ישמש סיוע לעניני הישיבה...
