Greetings and blessings,

You tell me that you are being offered a position as rav. Given the responsibility that falls upon rabbanim* in every era, particularly in our own and especially in a neighborhood of young people, you will particularly strengthen your yiras Shamayim*, inwardly and outwardly.

Our Sages say, indeed, that a Torah scholar must display outwardly only what he possesses deeply within. And the Mishnah* specifies that the act is essential and not the study. Concrete conduct is therefore particularly important.

In our day, when one leads a community, one must underscore the value of concrete action — of keeping Shabbos*, taharas hamishpachah*, of giving a good chinuch* to the children. It is no doubt unnecessary to say more.

On the occasion of the new year, which approaches in a positive way, for us and for all Yisrael, I would like to express to you my blessing, that you be inscribed and sealed for a good and sweet year, materially and spiritually.

... ומ"ש שמציעים לו מרשת רבנות... הנה בטח בהתאם להאחריות המוטלת על רבנים בכל עת וזמן ובפרט בזמננו זה ובפרטי פרטית בשכונה של צעירים, הרי יזדיין ביותר בענינים של יראת שמים הן מבפנים והן מבחוץ וכפסק רז"ל אשר ת"ח צ"ל תוכו כברו וכידוע דבר משנה אשר לא המדרש עיקר אלא המעשה הרי ביותר נוגעת ההנהגה וכן הדרכת עדה להדגיש בימינו אלה עניני צד המעשי בשמירת שבת טהרת המשפחה חינוך הכשר כו' וכו' והאריכות בזה אך למותר.

ולקראת השנה החדשה הבאה עלינו ועל כל ישראל לטובה ולברכה, הנני בזה להביע ברכתי לו, ברכת כתיבה וחתימה טובה לשנה טובה ומתוקה בגשמיות וברוחניות.
