Greetings and blessings,

I have duly received your letter of the eve of Shabbos* Tavo and the request for a blessing that accompanied it. You ought to have explained to your son-in-law that it is not fitting to adopt such an attitude toward Hashem.

Previously, when his daughter was not in good health, he had formulated a promise. At present, he is less firm in his desire to keep his word, and he awaits another illness, chas veshalom*, in order to remember his commitment.

Obviously, one must explain all this to him in a pleasant and positive way. May Hashem help you find the words that will allow you to convince your son-in-law, so that he be attentive to all this.
