Between the Heavenly Throne[1]
and the tenth day[2] 5714,

Greetings and blessings,
I received in due course the letter you previously sent me. On this matter, you will consult the Kuntres Uma'ayan*[3], from chapter 15 onward[4].
In my view, in order to correct the defect to which you allude[5], you must forget it completely. You will not even think about how to rectify it. When you feel that your thought concentrates on your qualities and your aptitudes, you will reflect on another idea, preferably on the greatness of Hashem.
In order that all this be easier to accomplish and that you receive Hashem's help, you will give every day, before tefillah*, a coin to tzedakah*, and you will read Tehillim*, after tefillah, at least according to their monthly division.
To the extent possible, you will also study the Derech Chaim*, of the Mitteler Rebbe*, son of the author of the Tanya*.
In these propitious days, "between the Heavenly Throne and the tenth day," I send my blessing to you, as well as to the members of your family, that you be definitively sealed for a good and sweet year, materially and spiritually.

שלום וברכה!
מכתבו מאז קבלתי במועדו. ויעויין קונטרס ומעין מאמר ט"ו ואילך. ולתיקון המדה שכותב, הנה לדעתי, ינסה לבטלה ע"י היסח הדעת לגמרי ממנה, היינו גם מתיקונה.
וכשמרגיש שמתחיל לחשוב ע"ד מעלות וכשרונות כו' תיכף יפנה מחשבתו לאיזה ענין אחר (ומה טוב לענין גדלות הבורא).
וכדי שיבוא הנ"ל לפועל בנקל יותר ע"י סייעתא דשמיא - יתן בכ"י קודם התפלה פרוטה לצדקה, ואחר התפלה יאמר תהלים (עכ"פ כפי שנחלק לימי החודש).
אם אפשר כדאי ללמוד ספר דרך חיים לאדמו"ר האמצעי (בנו של בעל התניא).
ובימי רצון אלו דבין כסא לעשור הנני בזה להביע ברכתי לו ולב"ב שיחיו, ברכת חתימה וגמר חתימה טובה לשנה טובה ומתוקה בגשמיות וברוחניות.
