To the leaders of the Chabad association
in our Eretz HaKodesh*,
may Hashem grant them long life,

Greetings and blessings,

I have duly received your letters of erev Sukkos and of the fifth day of Chol HaMoed* Sukkos*.

Concerning the schools of the network[1], their goal and their object are to instill a spirit of yiras Shamayim*, to dispense an education based on sacred values, to the fullest extent possible, in milieus where all this is presently lacking. Each progress in this matter is therefore positive, even if the present situation is not fully satisfactory, since it is still far from what it should be.

One must therefore take heart and strengthen the schools of this network, at least in the places where they already exist. Thus, the talmidim* will be able to receive an education of Torah and yiras Shamayim. They will not be left behind, chas veshalom*, and thus exposed to receiving an impious education.

By meditating as is fitting on the manner of separating the wheat from the chaff, by understanding that, if one does nothing, these talmidim will be handed over to teachers who go against Torah and the mitzvos*, one will act, in this matter, with all the necessary ardor. In the end, Hashem will allow one to know success, to overcome the obstacles and the veils, and to form talmidim who fear Hashem in the schools of the network.

You asked me, some time ago, about your mutual aid fund, which functions through the bank. It is indeed good that everything be done through this institution and not through individuals.

I am very pained to have, once again, no news of the construction of the vocational school and the agricultural school[2].

Awaiting good and joyous news, and with my blessing for success in your mission, in conformity with the will of our leaders, our holy masters, whose merit shall protect us,

מאשר הנני בזה קבלת מכתבם מערחה"ס ומה' דחוהמ"ס...

בנוגע למוסדות חינוך הרשת, שכוונתם ומטרתם היא להחדיר רוח יר"ש וחינוך על טהרת הקדש עד כמה שאפשר גם באותם החוגים והסביבות שחסרים שם עתה ענינים אלו, ובמילא כל צעד ושעל שכובשים - שכר הוא (אף שעדיין איננו משביע רצון כי רחוק הוא מהראוי להיות) הרי צריך להתאמץ להחזיק מוסדות הרשת עכ"פ בהמקומות שהיו שם עד עתה... כדי שתהי' האפשריות לחנך התלמידים והתלמידות בחינוך של תורה ויר"ש ולא לעזבם ח"ו לנפשם (ועי"ז) במצב סכנת חינוך של כפירה ר"ל... ובהתבוננות המתאימה בגודל הענין דלהוציא יקר מזולל, ושבאם ימנעו ידם מזה יפלו ח"ו התלמידים-ות לידי מחנכים היפך התורה והמצוה, בודאי יעבדו גם בזה במרץ המתאים, וסו"ס חפץ הוי' בידם יצליח, להתגבר על כל המניעות ההעלמות והסתרים ולהקים תלמידים ותלמידות יראי שמים במוסדות הרשת...

ע"ד שאלתם מכבר, בענין קרן הגמ"ח שלהם שהוא נעשה על ידי באנק, הרי נכון הדבר שיהי' דוקא באופן כזה, היינו ע"י באנק, ולא על ידי אנשים פרטים.

מצער אותי במאד, שעוה"פ אין כל ידיעה בנוגע לבנין בתי הספר למלאכה ולחקלאות.
