Greetings and blessings,

A) I received with pleasure your letter of 26 and 29 Tishrei, with the fourteen chapters of Beis Rebbi*, vol. 1, that were enclosed[2]. I transmitted them to the printer, in the hope that everything be completed by 19 Kislev, which approaches.

I am surprised that, in appearance, you did not make use, for your work, of what appears in the Toras Shalom*[3]. You surely possess one of the copies that was sent from here. It would be good for you to consult this book, to observe its content, and to send your additions here, specifying the chapter and the reference that will allow them to be integrated into the text.

Obviously, the sooner the better, in order not to delay the printing.

B) For the four chapters dealing with the family of the Rebbe[4] and his books, you ask that someone here be able to take charge of it[5]. For the moment, I do not see who could do it.

It would be good for you to write yourself the chapter on these books, based on what is printed in the teaching of Chabad and in the Kuntres Sha'arei Chabad of Mr. A. M. Haberman, which appeared in Yerushalayim* in 5712[6]. The author is one of the editors of the periodical Kiryat Sefer.

You will do the same for the chapter concerning the family and the masters of the Rebbe. You will write it yourself, as you did for the first fourteen chapters.

C) As for the stories concerning the chassidim of the Alter Rebbe*, your proposal to gather and edit them is good. Nevertheless, one cannot delay the appearance[7] because of this. Moreover, these stories, in part, may not be exact.

It is difficult to verify all this, and these texts must therefore not be printed with the Beis Rebbi, in order not to cast doubt on its authenticity.

D) I appreciated your presentation and your translation of the Beis Rebbi, which makes a good and strong impression. I hope that the publication of this book will be useful from various points of view.

Hashem has granted you the merit of placing this book at the disposal of the greatest number. All this therefore depends on you, and you will receive from it, as well as your wife, all the material and spiritual good, so that the wish of your heart be positively granted and that you soon have a child.

E) You write to me that the youth committee of the Chabad association has decided to strengthen its actions. I am particularly pleased by this. May Hashem grant that this decision be followed by effect, very soon and in concrete fashion.

It is established that an effort is never in vain. How much more so is this the case when it is bound to concrete action and concerns it. One can thus give the example of what one expects from others.

In expectation of your good news, I conclude by granting you my blessing,

שלום וברכה!

בנועם קבלתי מכתבו מכ"ו וכ"ט תשרי בצירוף י"ד פרקים מבית רבי חלק א', ומסרתים לסדרם בדפוס, וכולי האי ואולי יוגמר לי"ט כסלו הבעל"ט. ולפלא שכנראה לא נשתמש בעבודתו בהנמצא בספר תורת שלום ובודאי נמצא אצלו ממה ששלח לכאן, וכדאי שיעבור על הספר הנ"ל וימלא מהנמצא בו וישלח לכאן בהוראת הפרק והמקום אשר שם יושלבו מילואים אלו, ומובן אשר ההקדם בזה ישובח כדי שלא לעכב בההדפסה.

ב) בהנוגע להארבעה פרקים אודות משפחת רבינו וספריו הנה למצוא מי שיתעסק כאן אודות הנ"ל, הנה לע"ע איני רואה המתאים לזה, ומהנכון הי' - שע"פ הנדפס בתורת חסידות חב"ד ובקונטרס שערי חב"ד למר א. מ. הברמן (נדפס בירושלים תשי"ב והוא א' הכותבים בהמכ"ע קרית ספר) - שיערוך הוא בעצמו גם הפרק של ספריו, וה"ה בנוגע להפרק דמשפחתו ורבותיו שיערכם בעצמו וכדרך שעשה בי"ד פרקים הראשונים.

ג) בנוגע להסיפורים אודות חסידי רבינו הזקן, אף שכדאית ונכונה הצעתו לקבצם ולהדפיסם, אבל מלבד שאין לעכב הדבר עד אז, הנה חלק מסיפורים אלו יש ספק באמיתתם, וכיון שקשה לברר, הנה אין כדאי שיודפסו ביחד עם הבית רבי שלא להחליש עי"ז סמכותו.

ד) נהניתי מכללות עריכתו והעתקתו של הב"ר אשר עושה רושם טוב וגם חזק ואקוה אשר הופעתו תביא תועלת בכמה מובנים, וכיון שזיכהו השי"ת לזכות את הרבים הרי זכות הרבים תלוי בו להשפיע לו ולזוגתו תחי' טוב בגשמיות וברוחניות ולמלאות משאלות לבבם לטובה בזחו"ק בקרוב.

ה) נהניתי במאד מאד במה שכפי מכתבו הנה הועד דצעירי אגו"ח החליט להתאמץ בפעולותיו והלואי שיבוא זה בפו"מ ובקרוב ממש ובפעולות ממשיות, ואם חזקה לתעמולה שאינה חוזרת ריקם הנה עאכו"כ תעמולה הקשורה ומתבטאת במעשים בפועל שיכולים לשמש דוגמא מה הם דורשים מאחרים.
