of Kfar Chabad, may Hashem grant you long life,

Greetings and blessings,

I am responding to your question. You tell me that you have been wondering about certain classes in which the language of study was, until now, Yiddish. For various reasons, which you mention in your letter, you ask what should be done at the next start of the school year, and you solicit my opinion.

Despite the reasons invoked, it is necessary that the studies continue in Yiddish, as was the case until now. You see in what manner the negative forces struggle over each detail, are ready for anything in order to obtain victory. What is, by us, a constituent element of the Torah — would it then not be comparable to what is the object of their preoccupations?

Now, you know that all customs must be maintained, even if it concerns the color of laces, and how much more so for everything that concerns chinuch*. It is difficult to foresee the consequences that the slightest modification, occurring during the years of childhood, can have on all the rest of life. For people such as you, it is surely unnecessary to say more.

במענה על שאלתם שעד עתה היו אצלם כתות ששפת הלימוד עמהם הי' באידיש ומסתפקים בזה בנוגע לזמן הבע"ל מפני כמה טעמים שמזכירים במכתבם ושואלים חוו"ד בזה.

הנה למרות הטעמים שמזכירים מוכרח הדבר שימשיכו בכתות הנ"ל דוקא בשפת אידיש וכמו שהי' עד עתה... ובה בשעה שרואים אשר הלעו"ז לוחם בעד כל קוץ ותג ואין דבר נחשב למאומה ובלבד לנצח, הרי לא תהי' תורה שלימה שלנו כענינים שלהם שצריכים לשמור אפילו על ערקתא דמסאנא ועאכו"כ בענין הנוגע בחינוך שקשה במאד לשער מראש את התוצאות משינוי קל במשך שנות הילדות על משך חיי האדם בימי חלדו, והאריכות לדכוותייהו בטח אך למותר.
