Volume 8 · Letter 35

B"H,

1 Kislev 5714,

Brooklyn,

Greetings and blessings,

As for your dispute, it is quite obvious that I have asked no one to cause a Jew to suffer, nor the members of his family. Such is not my role. For all that, I do not appreciate that things are so. I am not in agreement that you resign from the functions that have been entrusted to you, even if your salary is not large. I also disapprove of the publicity made around the fact that a rav has been called to arbitrate between you.

Will you gain anything from all this? I doubt it. Each time one presents oneself before a rav in such a case, one can never foresee what the conclusion will be.

There is also another point. One must seek to obtain the means of ensuring one's material livelihood, and not of satisfying one's own ambitions. Now, I do not believe that a yeshivah* or an institution that has had knowledge of the scandal you have made will offer you a position, knowing that, in your view, this one must no longer be taken from you afterward.
