Greetings and blessings,

After a long silence, I have at last received your letter of 3 Kislev, in which you inform me of the many difficulties you bear in integrating the new talmidim*. You know the affirmation of the Mechilta according to which "all beginnings are difficult." Certainly, knowing this does not facilitate the situation, but it makes it, on the other hand, less unexpected. There is therefore no reason to be affected by it. It is certain that Hashem will grant you success, provided that you furnish the necessary effort. You will manage to organize this new class and therefore to develop the yeshivah* progressively.

You mention the coming here of these talmidim on the occasion of the festival of the liberation of Yud-Tes Kislev, which is approaching. In a general way, the established order is that a talmid receive, for this, the authorization of the direction of the yeshivah. The latter, in the letter it writes on this subject, specifies the deadline of this stay or else relies on my secretariat to set it. It can also adopt a more strict position. Nevertheless, the custom in the United States is that one not count on the natural submission of young people and talmidim, that one therefore not subject them to a trial.

If, as you write, certain talmidim strongly desire to come here, it would perhaps be good to take advantage of this to set conditions for them. Thus, if they are authorized to make this trip, they will have to redouble their ardor in study and distinguish themselves in it. However, one may wonder whether it would be wise to forbid this trip totally, all the more since, as you specify, they also wish to see their family.

For all that, one must limit their stay here to a few days. Obviously, this condition also differs for each one. It therefore belongs to the direction of the yeshivah, on the spot, to take a decision for each talmid in particular.

I address to you my blessing for success in your sacred mission. No doubt the chassidim of your city are doing well, since you say nothing to me on this subject. It is a pity that one does not seek to draw close to them and in particular to those who were close before, then, for various reasons, distanced themselves somewhat.

לאחר הדומי' הארוכה הנה סו"ס נתקבל מכתבו מג' כסלו, בו כותב אודות הקישויים השונים בסידור התלמידים החדשים. והנה ידוע מאמר המכילתא כל התחלות קשות, ואם שאף לאחר שיודעים את המאמר הנ"ל ווע[ר]ט אפשר ניט קיין ס[א]ך לייכטער, אבל בכ"ז התמי' שבדבר סרה, ובמילא אין להתפעל מזה ובודאי יצליח השי"ת שבאם רק ישתדלו בזה, וועט מען אויספירען סידור הכתה החדשה ובד"מ התפתחות הישיבה מדרגא לדרגא.

מה שכותב אודות נסיעת תלמידים הנ"ל לכאן לחג הגאולה הוא י"ט כסלו הבע"ל.

הנה בכלל הסדר הוא אשר כל תלמיד צריך לקבל רשות מהנהלת הישיבה ובכתב הרשיון הנה הנהלת הישיבה מגבלת את הזמן, או שמוסרת את זה על דעת מזכירות שלי. עפ"ז אפשר לההנהלה להחמיר ביותר, אבל ידוע המנהג בארצוה"ב בנוגע ליחס עם נערים ועם תלמידים שלא לסמוך הרבה על כח הקבלת עול שבהם ובמילא לא להביאם לידי נסיון, ואם כפי שכותב חזק רצונם של חלק מהתלמידים לנסוע לכאן, אפשר כדאי אויסניצען דאס להתנות עמהם שבאם ירשו להם לנסוע הוא בתנאי שיתמיד בלימודו ויצטיין, אבל למנוע הנסיעה לגמרי צריך עיון אם כדאי ובפרט שכפי שכותב ברצונם ג"כ להתראות עם משפחתם, אבל לאידך גיסא יש להגביל זמן שהותם כאן לימים אחדים בלבד, ומובן אשר גם בזה לא הכל שוים ועל הנהלת הישיבה להחליט על אתר בנוגע לכאו"א בפרט.

בברכת הצלחה בעבודתו בקדש, ובטח כיון שאינו מזכיר דבר הכל שלום אצל אנ"ש דמחנם, וחבל אשר אין משתדלים כראוי לקרבם ובפרט אלו שהיו קרובים ומכמה סיבות נתרחקו קצת.
