To the distinguished chassid who fears Hashem,
Rav Yitzchak Yaakov[1],

Greetings and blessings,

I have duly received your letter of 10 Kislev. I read in it with satisfaction that you are doing better and that you are satisfied with your lot. May Hashem grant that this lot and this simchah* may develop.

You mention the matter of speaking during davening*. You know to what extent the early Sages, over many generations, warned against this. In addition, you have surely had knowledge of the account of my father-in-law, the Rebbe, whose merit shall protect us, according to which, as a child, he posed the following question to his father, the Rebbe: "Why was man created with two eyes?" His father answered him that the right eye[2] served to observe one's fellow generously, whereas one was to consider with the left eye[3] the pleasures of this world.

If you take into account the fact that this davening is inserted into the commercial activities and the preoccupations of this world, which one must interrupt in order to address the Holy One, blessed be He, you will strengthen the positive side over the other[4]. Thus, you will draw closer to the injunctions of our holy Torah, including in your daily existence.

Obviously, it is not always necessary to make this[5] public, for one could make use of it to justify such an attitude[6]. But you yourself must have consciousness that one must consider the other with benevolence. This idea will help you to attain it.

I enclose for you what was printed[7] on the occasion of the festival of liberation of Yud-Tes Kislev, which is approaching. In fact, the content of this text is valid throughout the year.

שלום וברכה!

מאשר הנני בזה קבלת מכתבו מיו"ד כסלו ונהניתי לקרות בו שהוטב מצב בריאותו ושמח בחלקו, והשי"ת יצליחו שיתגדל החלק ותתגדל השמחה.

מה שכותב אודות הדבור בשעת התפלה, וכו'. הנה ידוע עד כמה צווחו קמאי בזה זה משך כמה דורות, אבל לאחר כל זה בטח שמע מסיפור כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר זצוקללה"ה נבג"מ זי"ע, אשר בילדותו שאל את אביו כ"ק אדמו"ר מפני מה נברא האדם בשתי עינים, ויענהו אביו אשר בעין דימין צריך להביט על הזולת בעין יפה, ובעין שמאל על התאוות דעולם הזה.

ובהביא בחשבון שאצלם הנה כל תפלה היא באמצע העסק ועניני עולם הזה ובכל זה מפסיקים ונותנים משך זמן להתפלל לפני הקב"ה הנה זה גופא יגביר אצלם צד הטוב על הצד השני ובמילא יתקרבו להדרכת תורתנו הק' גם בחיי היום יומיים.

מובן לא תמיד צריך להכריז ע"ד ענין זה שלא ישתמשו בו מעין הכשר על הנהגה הנ"ל. אבל לעצמו צריך לדעת החשבון להביט בעין ימין עין יפה, ורעיון הנ"ל מקיל בדבר.
