To the great rav, distinguished chassid* who fears Hashem,
Rav Hillel [1],

Greetings and blessings,

I have not had news from you for some time, and it seems that the rav, distinguished chassid* who fears Hashem and devotes himself to communal needs, Rav Ben Tzion Shemtov, who is here at the moment, has not either. I therefore await that you yourself transmit to me this good news. This is part of what is preferable to accomplish personally rather than to entrust to someone else. Indeed, the necessity to love one's fellow allows one to consider such a practice also as a mitzvah*.

I enclose a copy of my letter [2], addressed to all on the occasion of the luminous day of our deliverance and the freedom of our neshamah*, the festival of Yud-Tes Kislev, which has just passed and whose content applies throughout the year. It will surely interest you.

N.B.: You ask me whether you should participate in the Vitebsk volume currently being published in Eretz HaKodesh* [3]. You know the position on this matter of my father-in-law, the Rebbe, whose merit protects us. The teaching of the Baal Shem Tov* [4] specifies that every detail, even concerning a mineral, a plant or an animal, is governed by hashgachah pratis*. And how much more is this the case when it is a man, and especially a Yid*. You also know what the Alter Rebbe*, whose joy we celebrate [5], says, commenting on the interpretation given by our chachamim*, in Maseches Chullin 63a, of the pasuk* "Your judgments…" [6].

It is therefore necessary, in every detail, to seek a means of serving Hashem, in accordance with the injunction "In all your ways, know Him." In contributing your participation to this realization, you will surely be able to include in your article ideas inviting the practice of Torah and Yiddishkeit*, in the spirit of the Tradition of Yisrael*. This initiative is therefore positive.

זה מזמן שלא הגיעו ממנו ידיעות וכנראה שגם הרה"ח הוו"ח אי"א נו"נ עוסק בצ"צ מוה"ר בן ציון שי' שם טוב המתארח עתה פה ג"כ אינו יודע ברורות, ובמילא אחכה אשר בעצמו יבשר טוב... והרי זה מהמצות שמצוה בו יותר מבשלוחו כיון שמפני אהבת ישראל הרי גם בזה ענין של מצוה.

מוסג"פ העתק מכתבי כללי בקשר עם יום הבהיר גאולתנו ופדות נפשנו הוא חג י"ט כסלו העבר, שתוכנו כל השנה זמנו הוא, אשר בטח יעניין את כת"ר שי'.

במה ששואל חוות דעתי אם להשתתף בספר וויטעבסק שיו"ל באה"ק ת"ו הנה ידוע השקפת כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר זצוקללה"ה נבג"מ זי"ע, שכיון שע"פ תורת הבעש"ט כל פרט ופרט הוא בהשגחה פרטית אפילו בדומם צומח חי ועאכו"כ במין המדבר ובני ישראל ביחוד (וידוע מה שהכריע זה רבינו הזקן בעל השמחה ממרז"ל חולין ס"ג ע"א עה"פ משפטיך כו') הרי צריך לחפש בכל פרט וענין עבודת השם מתאים לההוראה דבכל דרכיך דעהו, וע"י השתפות בהנ"ל בטח יוכל לשלב במאמרו ענינים המעוררים לתורה ויהדות ברוח ישראל סבא ובמילא נכון הדבר.
