To the great rav, distinguished chassid* who fears Hashem
and devotes himself to communal needs,
possesses manifold knowledge and is distinguished
by his generosity, Rav Sh. Y. [1],

Greetings and blessings,

A) I received in their time your letters and what was enclosed with them. I ask you to please excuse me for replying to you only now, due to my many occupations, which keep multiplying and, for the most part, cause me distress.

Moreover, I am devoting myself to the edition of the Tanya*, which is appearing for the first time in the United States, and I did not imagine that it would take me so much time. In addition, I did not take charge of the very last correction, and several errors have therefore remained, despite my efforts to remove them.

Thus has been fulfilled the statement of our chachamim* in Maseches Pesachim 112a, according to which "one who devotes himself to study does not occupy himself…" [2], according to the interpretation of Rashi*, but not according to that of the Rashbam* [3], chas veshalom*.

B) You have surely received in their time the tenth volume of Sdei Chemed and also the Derech Mitzvosecha, which were published here.

Likewise, you have been sent, by separate parcel, the Tanya* to which I alluded, and also a Tehillim* with the commentary of the Tzemach Tzedek*. You will confirm to me that you have received them. I thank you in advance.

C) I received in these days the new edition of your sefer* Moadim BaHalachah and I thank you for it.

May Hashem permit you to grow and adorn the Torah, by your sefarim* and your articles, for long days and good years, both materially and spiritually.

D) I also enclose what was published here [4] on the occasion of the chag hageulah* of Yud-Tes Kislev, which has just passed. This will surely interest you.

E) On this subject, if you find some free time, you will be able to describe to me, in detail, the chassidisher farbrengen* of Yud-Tes Kislev that took place at the Kfar* [5]. You will specify to me, in particular, the content of the talks, and I will be grateful to you for it.

מכתביו - עם המוסג"ב - בעתם קבלתי ואתו רב הסליחה על אשר התעכב המענה שלי עד עתה שהוא מרוב הטרדות ההולכות וגדלות, ורובם כרוכות גם בעגמ"נ ונוסף על כ"ז גם ההתעסקות בהו"ל של התניא בפעם הראשונה בארצוה"ב שלא שיערתי מראש שיודרש כ"כ זמן ממני, ולא עוד אלא כיון שלא טפלתי בהגהה היותר האחרונה הרי נשארו כמה טעויות למרות השתדלותי להגיה עד כמה שאפשר. ונתקיים מרז"ל (פסחים קיב, א) - כפירש"י דטריד בגירסי' (ועי"ז) ולא כו' [אבל לא ח"ו כפי' הרשב"ם].

ב) בטח קבל בעתו את השדי חמד כרך עשירי וכן הדרך מצותיך עם הוספות שהו"ל כאן, וכן נשלח לו בחבילה בפ"ע מכאן התניא הנ"ל וכן התהלים עם פירוש הצ"צ, ובטח יאשר קבלת כל הנ"ל, ות"ח מראש.

ג) ימים אלו נתקבל ספרו מועדים בהלכה בהוצאה חדשה ות"ח והשי"ת יזכהו להגדיל תורה ולהאדירה ע"י ספריו ומאמריו לאורך ימים ושנים טובות, טובות בגשמיות וברוחניות גם יחד...

ז) מוסג"פ מה שהו"ל בקשר עם חג הגאולה י"ט כסלו העבר, שבטח יעניין את כהדר"ג שי'.

ח) בהזדמנות זו הנה אם ימצא זמן פנוי ויכתוב לי בפרטיות אודות התועדות די"ט כסלו בהכפר ותוכן הנאומים, הרי א"ת אהי' לכת"ר שי'.
