Brooklyn,

To the chassidim* of Toronto,

May Hashem grant them long life,

I greet you warmly and bless you,

I received with pleasure your letter of the eve of the hilula* of the Alter Rebbe* [1], in which you specify that a chassidic farbrengen* took place on this occasion. No doubt, as our holy Torah* decides, "those who fear Hashem conferred with one another. Hashem listens, hears, and writes the book of remembrance."

In this way, Hashem grants His help so that one can serve Him afterwards. Indeed, all this has been recorded and figures in the book of remembrance. Forgetfulness is, from then on, impossible for what is found "before the Throne of Your honor." You will consult on this subject the laws of Talmud Torah of the Alter Rebbe*, ch. 2, end of §10.

In accordance with your positive practice, you will surely organize another chassidic farbrengen* on the day of the hilula* of my father-in-law [2], the Rebbe, whose merit will protect us and who leads our generation. You will receive the inspiration and you will take good resolutions in thought, speech, and concrete action, in the daily.

I enclose for you the chassidic maamar* delivered on the day of the hilula* last year. It has just appeared, and I hope it will be useful to you for this farbrengen*.

With my blessing for success in following the way of the one whose hilula* we are celebrating [3], such as he traced it before us, for "he is now in this world more than during his lifetime,"

נעם לי לקבל מכתבם מאור יום הילולא של כ"ק רבינו הזקן אשר נתועדו אז יחד, ובטח כפסק תוה"ק נדברו יראי ד' איש אל רעהו ויקשב ה' וישמע ויכתב ספר זכרון גו' שזהו נתינת כח וסיוע מלמעלה על עבודת השי"ת שאחרי זה, כיון שכבר בא לידי כתיבה ובספר זכרון, היינו שאין שייך שם שכחה כי הוא לפני כסא כבודך, ולהעיר מהלכות ת"ת לרבינו הזקן פרק ב' סוף סעיף יו"ד.

בטח כמנהגם הטוב הנ"ל יתועדו ג"כ ביום ההילולא של כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר זצוקללה"ה נבג"מ זי"ע מנהיג הדור בהתעוררות ובקבלת החלטות טובות במחשבה דבור ומעשה בפועל בחיי היום יומים ומוסג"פ המאמר שנאמר ביום ההילולא דאשתקד שיצא זה עתה לאור שתקותי שיסייעם בהנ"ל.

בברכה להצלחה בהליכה בדרכי בעל ההילולא אשר סלל לפנינו ואשר אשתכח עתה גם בעלמא דין יתיר מבחיוהי.
