To the great rav, distinguished chassid* who fears Hashem

and devotes himself to communal needs,

Greetings and blessings,

I duly received your letter of 7 Teves, which followed a long interruption. I thank you for having described to me, at least in a very concise manner, the chassidic farbrengen* of 19 Kislev. May Hashem grant that in the future, your letters be more detailed, and above all, that there be matter to write about, and that this concern concrete action.

My father-in-law the Rebbe often emphasized that concrete action is essential, and not study. And the same is true for the teaching of Chabad, although the latter seems to be a discipline of the mind. There too, "none is as wise as the one who has acquired experience."

I am surprised that you do not encourage the young Rav Yisrael Naeh [2] to publish articles dealing with what is connected to Chabad in the language of the country [3]. First of all, this will be personally useful to him. Moreover, it will have an effect, at least for a few people who can express themselves only in Italian. And "one who saves a Jewish soul is as if he saved the world entire."

It is unnecessary to complain about the past. Nevertheless, in the future, one must invest oneself in this domain with the greatest energy. Obviously, if it is useful, you may turn to him [4] in my name, provided that this be done.

I will read the request for berachah* that figured in your letter, in a propitious moment, near the resting place of my father-in-law, the Rebbe, whose merit will protect us.

I enclose for you a copy of the chassidic maamar* delivered last year on the day of the hilula* [5] of my father-in-law, the Rebbe. No doubt you will adopt a generous attitude in making it available to as many as possible.

מאשר הנני קבלת מכתבו מז' טבת לאחר ההפסק הארוך, ות"ח על כתבו, עכ"פ בקיצור נמרץ, אודות ההתועדות די"ט כסלו, ויה"ר אשר מכאן ולהבא יכתוב בפרטיות יותר, והעיקר שיהי' מה לכתוב ובהנוגע להפו"מ, וכמו שהי' מדגיש כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר כו"כ פעמים שלא המדרש עיקר אלא המעשה ואפילו בתורת חב"ד שלכאורה היא תורת המחשבה, הרי גם בזה אין חכם כבעל נסיון.

לפלא שאינו מזרז את האברך [מו"ה ישראל שי' נאה] שידפיס בלשון המדינה מהענינים דכרם חב"ד, שמלבד שתהי' זה תועלת בשביל האברך הנ"ל, הרי בודאי יפעול ג"כ, ולו יהא רק באחדים של הנזקקים ללשון אטלקי בלבד, והרי המקיים נפש אחת מישראל כאילו קיים עולם מלא. ואין צועקים על העבר, אבל עכ"פ מכאן ולהבא צריך להשתדל בזה במרץ הכי גדול, מובן שאם יש תועלת בדבר יכול לדבר עם הנ"ל גם בשמי בהנוגע לזה, ובלבד שיבוא לידי פעולה.
