To the rav, distinguished chassid* who fears Hashem

and devotes himself to communal needs,

Greetings and blessings,

A) I duly received your letters of erev* Shabbos* Vayechi, and of 7, 16, 19, 23, 25, and 26 Teves, with what was enclosed.

B) The rav, distinguished chassid* who fears Hashem and devotes himself to communal needs, Rav Ch. M. A. Hodakov [2], surely mentioned to you in its time the visit here of a class of young men and young women from a school attached to the beis midrash* of Chicago. They said that they would spend a few days in your city. It would be particularly judicious for you to meet with them, in the most appropriate manner.

Thus you will be able to strengthen in them the awareness that the teachings and practices of chassidus* are, in our era, an absolute necessity. Indeed, Torah* and mitzvos* must be put into practice with warmth and enthusiasm. Moreover, one must put into practice, in one's avodas* Hashem, the fact that ahavas Yisrael*, ahavas Torah*, and ahavas* of the Holy One, blessed be He, form one and the same entity. In fact, I am surprised that you do not speak of this.

This brings me to another point in the same vein. You met certain people who, on your advice, telegraphed me. One must also seize this occasion to bring them closer to chassidus*. The Baal Shem Tov* teaches, indeed, that all that one sees or hears delivers a teaching for the service of Hashem [3]. Likewise, one must, whenever possible, spread the wellsprings [4], including when one is outside. It is surely unnecessary to say more.

C) I was pleased to take note of what you tell me about the inauguration of the shul* of Rav D. M. Liberman [5], in which you participated.

May Hashem grant that the collaboration between the chassidim* of Chicago continue in the future, and that it be the same for chassidim* in other places, that the Name of Hashem be sanctified by us and by them.

I enclose for you a copy of the chassidic maamar* delivered last year on the day of the hilula* [6]. It has just appeared, and you will surely adopt a generous attitude in making it available to as many as possible.

With my blessing for success in all that has just been said,

ב) בודאי מסר לו בשעתו הרה"ח הוו"ח אי"א נו"נ עוסק בצ"צ מוהרחמ"א שי' חדקוב אודות הביקור אצלי של כתת בחורים ובחורות של בח"ד ששייכים גם לביהמ"ד בשיקאגא ואשר כפי דבריהם יתעכבו במחנו איזה ימים ובמילא נכון במאד מאד שיפגש אתם באופן המתאים ותהי' לו הזדמנות להחזיק אצלם (פארפעסטיקן אין זיי) את ההכרח בזמננו זה דענין הדרכות ומנהגי תורת החסידות, היינו שצריך לעשות כל ענין בתומ"צ בחיות וחום ואופן העבודה דאהבת ישראל אהבת התורה ואהבת השם בהתאחדות כולם יחד כו' וכו', ולפלא שאינו מזכיר דבר עד"ז. ומענין לענין דומה לזה גם ע"ד ההתראות עם... שתלגרפו אלי עפ"י הצעתו, שצריך לנצל גם הזדמנות זו לקרבם לחסידות, והוא ע"ד פתגם הבעש"ט שמכל דבר שרואים או שומעים יכולים ובמילא גם צריכים לקחת הוראה בעבודת השי"ת וכמו"כ הוא שבכל ענין שמזדמן לאדם צריך לנצל להפצת המעיינות וגם אפילו חוצה, והאריכות בזה אך למותר.

ג) נהניתי במ"ש ע"ד חנוכת הביכ"נ של הרב רד"מ שי' ליברמן שהשתתף בזה ויה"ר שגם בעתיד ישתפו פעולה כל אנ"ש אשר בשיקאגא ועד"ז ג"כ כל אנ"ש שבמקומות אחרים ומנן ומנייהו יתקלס שם עילאה...
