Greetings and blessings,
I duly received your letter of 19 Teves, in which you tell me that you are hospitalized, under medical surveillance. You inform me of your state of health, which inspires you with fears.
As you know, each one must firmly place his bitachon* in Hashem, Who "heals all flesh and works wonders." The stronger this bitachon* is, the more your state of health will improve. Nevertheless, our holy Torah* says that "he shall surely heal." It thus makes the doctor the emissary of the One Who "heals all flesh," in order to bring healing to the person who needs it.
To strengthen one's bitachon* in Hashem and increase the berachah* He grants, each one must develop his practice of Torah* and mitzvos*, in accordance with his own situation. Moreover, one cannot content oneself with acting for one's own person. One must also influence those in one's surroundings. You will surely succeed and you will invite them to act in these two directions, to place their bitachon* in Hashem and to develop their practice of Torah* and mitzvos*.
The Holy One, blessed be He, acts "middah* keneged middah*." When one strengthens the health, moral or physical, of one's Jewish brother, one oneself receives from Hashem a greatly increased berachah*. May Hashem grant that you can announce good news to me in all these areas!

נתקבל מכתבו מי"ט טבת, בו כותב אשר נמצא בבית רפואה תחת פיקוח רופאים ומתאר מצב בריאותו ומודאג הוא עד"ז.
והנה בכלל ידוע אשר כל אחד ואחד צריך להיות חזק בבטחונו בהשי"ת הרופא כל בשר ומפליא לעשות, וככל אשר יגדל הבטחון תגדל ג"כ הטבת מצב הבריאות אלא שביחד עם זה אמרה תורתנו הק' ורפא ירפא שהרופא הוא שלוחו של הרופא כל בשר להביא הרפואה להנזקק לזה, וכדי לחזק הבטחון ולהוסיף בברכת השי"ת צריך גם כן להוסיף בענינים דתורה ומצות כל אחד ואחד לפי מעמדו ומצבו, ועוד זאת שלא להסתפק בהפעולה עם עצמו אלא לעודד את הנמצאים בסביבתו שבטח יכול להשפיע עליהם באיזה מדה ולעודדם גם כן בשני הענינים יחד, בבטחון ובהוספה בתורה ומצות, ומדתו של הקב"ה מדה כנגד מדה, שכשמוסיפין בבריאות רוחני או גשמי של חבירו הישראלי הרי מוסיף הקב"ה כמה פעמים ככה להמשתדל בזה והשי"ת יצליחו לבשר טוב בכל הנ"ל,
