6 Shevat 5714,

Brooklyn,

Greetings and blessings,

I have just received your letter of erev* Shabbos* Va'eira, and I respond to your questions:

A) Until now, the study of Torah* has systematically been set on Sunday. It is therefore not for you, nor is it the affair of Lubavitch, to introduce a change in this domain by thus identifying with those who are not observant or even with non-Yidden*.

B) Concerning "the study of Hebrew in Hebrew," you know how much our masters struggled so that this would not be the case, despite the "objections" of the "educators" who claimed to seek the good of the students. And the same applies to the arguments you set forth in your letter.

It is therefore judicious and even easier for the candidates for teaching to learn Yiddish.

I enclose for you the chassidic maamar* delivered last year on the day of the hilula*. You will surely adopt a generous attitude in making it available to as many as possible.
