Igrot Kodesh · Letter 239 — Kehot Fundraising · Sephardic Outreach in Shanghai

By the grace of Hashem, Thursday 5 Tammuz* 5706, Brooklyn, To the great Rav*, distinguished Chassid*, who fears Hashem, Rav M. Ashkenazi[1], Shanghai, I greet and bless you,
You have no doubt received my telegram, asking you to find the means[2] that would allow us to continue our publications. I take the liberty of reiterating my request, proposing that you seek the good of all, and acquire a merit that cannot know any interruption. I spoke of it to my father-in-law, the Rebbe* Shlita*, who confirmed to me that it was indeed a good thing. May Hashem grant you success!
You are no doubt familiar with our work[3] in the educational domain, with the Sephardic* community of your city. We sent them an encouraging letter from my father-in-law, the Rebbe Shlita, through the intermediary of the Yeshiva* students. The latter have already left Shanghai to join the United States, and I would therefore be grateful to you if you would continue the outreach to the Sephardim*, personally or through your emissaries.
I enclose for you a letter for this community, from the Sephardic Rav* of Jerusalem*, which will soon be rebuilt. He expressed the wish to send it through the intermediary of my father-in-law, the Rebbe Shlita, and it will surely have the desired effect.
I would be pleased to know what is being done in this domain, and for good order, I ask you to write to us directly, at our address.
I will conclude by evoking what the Parasha* says on this subject and what our Sages explain, in Midrash Rabbah* 19, 4[4].

בטח ידוע לכת"ר ע"ד מפעלנו לחנוך היהדות בתוך הקהלה הספרדית בעירו ואשר כידוע לו שלחנו להם מכבר - ע"י התמימים מכתב חזוק מכ"ק אדמו"ר שליט"א ובאשר התמימים שי' הנ"ל כבר בטח עזבו את שנגהיי בדרכם צלחה לארה"ב, הננו לבקש את כת"ר להמשיך את השפעתו על הספרדים להבא בעצמו וע"י עושי רצונו. מצרפים אנו בזה מכתב לקהלה הספרדית מאת הרב הספרדי בירושלים תו"ת בב"א אשר שלח ע"י כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר שליט"א, בע"ה יביא תועלת הרצוי. אשמח לדעת מכל הנעשה בזה לטובת הסדר נבקשו לשלח את כל מכתביו אלינו ישר עפ"י כתבתנו הנ"ל,
