To our friend, remarkable young man, Rabbi Menachem Zeev Gringlass, Montreal,
I greet you and bless you,
In response to your letter [1] of 26 Elul* 5702, we are prepared, to the extent possible, to furnish you with the necessary means for the publication of the Chaver* [2], provided you respect the conditions stated in our previous correspondence.
The second part of the journal, "The Soldier," will occupy a large portion of it. And you are authorized to reprint the laws and stories that are found in the "Conversations with the Youth" of previous months, but not those of the issue of the same month as the Chaver. However, you must write at the beginning of the article that it is a reproduction of the "Conversations," as you did in "The Soldier."
We have received your letter dated the Fast of Gedaliah* and, with the help of Hashem, we will send you the "Conversations with the Youth" for the month of Cheshvan*, as you request. We cannot send you five copies of the Kislev* issue. We can only do so for the issues starting from the month of Shevat*, which we will send you in the coming days. For the time being, the Kislev and Teves* issues are sold out.
We wish you to be definitively inscribed for a good year, "Immediate Teshuvah, immediate redemption,"

במענה על מכתבם מכ"ו אלול ה'תש"ב, הנה מוכנים אנו בע"ה לסייע להמציא החומר עבור ה"חבר" במדה האפשרית באם תמו את התנאים שהתנינו אתכם במכתבינו הקודמים.
הלא החלק השני מה"סאלדשער" יתפוס מקום גדול בעתון ורשאים אתם להדפיס גם דינים וספורים מה"שמועסן" הקודמים (לבד מאותו החדש שמופיע ה"חבר"), בתנאי שיהי' רשום בתחילת המאמר שלקחתם אותו מה"שמועסן" וכו' כמו שעשיתם בהדפסת ה"סאלדשער".
קבלנו את מכתבם מיום צום גדלי', ונשלח לו ה"שמועסן" מחודש חשון אי"ה כפי בקשתם. איננו יכולים לשלוח לו חמשה עקז' מן החודש כסלו העבר, כ"א רק מחודש שבט ואילך שנשלח לו ימים אלו, כי אין לנו עוד חוברות מכסלו ומטבת.
