Igrot Kodesh · Letter 252 — Seeking information about his father Rabbi Levi Yitzchak's final years in Soviet Russia

By the grace of Hashem,
Between Rosh Hashana* and Yom Kippur* 5707,
To the honorable man, fearing Hashem, who devotes himself to communal needs, Mr. Gripel,

I greet and bless you,

I have just learned that your close relatives, who are currently with you and whose family name is Weinreich, lived in the same city as my father, the great Rav, Rabbi Levi Yitzchak, during his final years.

Until this day, I have been unable to obtain any information about this period of his life — about his illness, his final wishes, his death, his burial, and the anniversary date of his passing [1].

I would therefore be very deeply grateful to them if they would agree to write me a few lines on this subject. They would thereby be fulfilling a most considerable Mitzva*.

I do not know their address and I am therefore addressing you. I hope they will accede to my request, expressed from the depths of my heart.

I conclude by wishing you to be definitively inscribed for a good year,

זה עתה נודעתי אשר קרוביו הנמצאים עתה בסמיכות אליו ושם משפחתם וויינריך, דרו בעיר שם גר אבי מורי הרה"ג והרה"ח ר' לוי יצחק ז"ל בשני חייו האחרונות. ובאשר עד היום לא עלתה בידי לקבל ידיעות ע"ד תקופת חייו זו, פרטי מחלתו, צוואתו, מיתתו, קבורתו וכו' ויום היא"צ הנה תודתי מקול"ע נתונה להם אם יואילו בטובם לכתוב לי עד"ז ולמצוה תחשב להם.

איני יודע כתובתם, ולכן הנני מטריחו בזה, ותקותי שימלאו בקשתי נפשיית זו.
