Greetings and blessing,

I reply to your letter of 8 Tammuz, in which you briefly describe to me what your life has been. You are currently pursuing your studies at the professional school and you tell me that pressure is being exerted upon you to settle in a kibbutz.

Every Jew believes that Hashem nourishes all beings, with kindness and mercy. And He writes, in His Torah, that "if you walk in My statutes" — that is, according to the interpretation of our Sages, cited by Rashi*, "if you place your efforts in the Torah" — then, "I will give your rains in their time and the earth will furnish its production." Likewise, all the blessings enumerated in this Parshah* will be fulfilled.

It follows that, if you sincerely desire that Hashem satisfy your needs when you experience them, you must respect this condition and invest your efforts in the Torah, in particular at your age, since you are seventeen years old. You must devote yourself to the study of our holy Torah, with ardor and enthusiasm. When the time comes, Hashem will enable you to settle, in a positive manner, materially and spiritually.

Moreover, you must explain to your brother who is eighteen years old the necessity of studying the holy Torah throughout the entire day. If he does not do so now, who knows whether he will have the opportunity to understand our Torah, Torah of life and Torah of truth? Thus, the Mishnah* teaches: "Do not say: 'When I have the time, I will study,' for perhaps you will not have the time." And, our Sages state, concerning one who studies the revealed part of the Torah and its profound teaching, arousing the fear and love of Hashem: "All that he undertakes meets with success."

These few lines will surely suffice to encourage you to redouble your ardor in your study. May Hashem grant you success.

במענה על מכתבו מח' תמוז, בו כותב בקיצור את אשר עבר עליו ואשר עתה לומד בבית ספר למלאכה ומוסיף אשר לוחצים עליו שיעבור לאיזה קבוץ.

הנה כל אחד מבני ישראל מאמין אשר הקב"ה הוא הזן ומפרנס לכל בחסד וברחמים והוא הוא שכתב בתורתו אשר אם בחקותי תלכו ופירשו רז"ל והובא גם כן בפירוש רש"י שם שתהיו עמלים בתורה הרי אז ונתתי גשמיכם בעתם ונתנה הארץ יבולה וכו' וכל הברכות הכתובים בפרשה אשר מזה מובן בפשיטות שאם באמת חפץ אשר השי"ת ימציא לו כשיצטרך פרנסתו הרי עליו לקיים את התנאי להיות עמלים בתורה ובפרט בשנים דגיל שלו שהוא בן שבע עשרה שנה שעליו למסור את עצמו ללימוד תוה"ק במסירה ונתינה ובטוח הקב"ה להמציא לו בעת המתאימה הסתדרות טובה בגשמיות וברוחניות גם יחד, ואדרבה עליו להסביר גם לא[ח]יו שהוא בן שמונה עשרה שנה אשר גם הוא ילמוד רוב היום בתוה"ק כי אם לא עכשיו אי אפשר לדעת אם תהי' היכולת בידו להבין ולהשכיל בתורתנו תורת חיים ותורת אמת וכפסק המשנה אל תאמר לכשאפנה אשנה שמא לא תפנה וכל הלומד תורה נגלה דתורה ופנימיות התורה המביאה ליראת ד' ואהבתו הרי אמרו רז"ל דינו אשר נכסיו מצליחים. ובודאי יספיקו שורותי אלה לעוררו להוסיף בהתמדה ושקידה בהלימודים והשי"ת יצליחו.
