Greetings and blessing,

I reply to your letter of 20 Tammuz and I read therein, with alarm, that you consulted a Jew who reads the lines of the hand. This person discouraged you with regard to your marriage and you ask me what I think of it.

I am surprised and greatly astonished that you pose me such a question, concerning what goes against our holy Torah, Torah of life and eternal Torah, which alone directs the world as a whole and in every detail that constitutes it.

The Torah says that each person must endeavor to marry, as the Talmud and the Decisors of the early and later generations establish. Forget therefore all of this, all that goes against the Shulchan Aruch*, for the Torah directs every event.

You will act in this direction with the appropriate alacrity, and one comes to the aid of one who desires to purify himself, as soon as he adopts a conduct based on the Torah. Moreover, this aid is granted both from above and from here below, in a manner that is both supernatural and natural at once.

May Hashem grant you success so that you give good news, in a joyful manner.

במענה על מכתבו מכ' תמוז, הנה נבהלתי לקרות בו ששמע חוות דעת יהודי המבין בחכמת היד שאמר לו שע"פ שראה בשרטוטי ידו הנה טרחתו בשידוכין כו' ושואל חוות דעתי בזה. ולפלא ולתמי' גדולה שאלתו בזה כיון שזהו היפך פסק תוה"ק תורת חיים ותורת עולם אשר רק על פי' יושק כל עניני העולם בכלל ובפרט והוא שכל אחד ואחד צריך להשתדל לישא אשה וכמבואר בש"ס ופוסקים ראשונים ואחרונים בפשיטות ויסיח דעתו לגמרי מכל האמור ואומר היפך השולחן ערוך כי התורה שולטת אפילו על המציאות ובפרט ויעשה בזה במרץ המתאים וכל הרוצה לטהר (שזהו נעשה ע"י הנהגה ע"פ התורה) מסייעין לו ומסייעין לשון רבים הן מלמעלה והן מלמטה הן למעלה מהטבע והן בטבע והשי"ת יצליחו לבשר טוב בזה מתוך שמחה.
