To the youth of the Chabad* association in our Holy Land, branch of Lod, may Hashem grant you long life,

Greetings and blessing,

I received, with pleasure, your letter of 28 Tammuz, in which you announce to me the creation of your branch and the election of your committee.

May Hashem grant that you meet with success, that you diffuse Chassidus*, its usages and its practices, in your immediate surroundings and in those that are more distant. Such diffusion will bring increased light, strength and vitality, including in the study of the revealed part of the Torah and the practice of mitzvos*, in the best fashion.

The Zohar*, vol. 3, page 152a, calls it (the profound part of the Torah) "the soul" of the Torah. Now, the more this soul is apparent and evident (within the body), the more the vitality of the body is globally reinforced, the more so is each limb that constitutes it as well. You will understand what this means.

Our Sages emphasize that "the action, and not the study, is essential." You will surely pursue these actions in the most concrete manner. You will ensure the diffusion to others in an effective manner and, for your part, you will reveal Chassidus* in your concrete action.

It is customary to speak of the desire of Hashem, cheifetz, that is, His profound Will, His pleasure. May Hashem therefore grant that you assume these actions with a profound desire. When one conceives a genuine desire for what one accomplishes, one acts with increased success.

To my close relative, the Rav, distinguished Chassid* who fears Hashem and devotes himself to communal needs, the Rav Azriel Zelig (Rav A. Z. Slonim, of Yerushalayim*; see, concerning him, letter no. 2286),

Greetings and blessing,

I learned, belatedly, of the passing of your sister Feiga. May Hashem console you, among all the other mourners of Zion and of Yerushalayim* (according to the traditional formula of condolences) and may you be, in the future, preserved from all pain and all sorrow.

Likewise, I have just learned, with alarm, of the passing of the great Rav and Chassid*, of manifold knowledge, the Rav Avraham Chaim Naeh. Would you please specify to me how this came about. It would also be necessary to concern oneself, as quickly as possible, with the writings and works that remain (of which Rav Naeh is the author and which have not yet been published). If these indeed exist, they should be published as soon as possible. In fact, he wrote to me that he was preparing the publication of a portion of the Ketzos HaShulchan*.

If he possessed Chassidic* manuscripts or precious works, it will perhaps be possible to exchange them for books published by Kehot* editions or to obtain them by another means and to send them here. Of course, this concerns only the writings and books that we do not yet possess. I thank you for all that you will do on this subject. It is clear that the sooner the better.

You speak to me of a young man who could continue his studies here. From what I have been able to observe, the atmosphere of the United States, in general, does not succeed, for the time being, with young men coming from the Holy Land. The Torah takes into account the majority situation and I therefore wonder whether it is good to send him here immediately, without first trying the approach that I indicated to you in a previous letter, which, in the meantime, has surely reached you.

I have learned, these days, that one of the officials responsible for the Bureau for Education through Torah is Dr. Lipchitz, who was previously in Moscow and who gave of himself to observe the Torah and the mitzvos*. My father-in-law, the Rebbe, whose merit will protect us, associated him with various actions and came to his aid in what he had to accomplish.

Without a doubt, if you awaken the attachment to my father-in-law, the Rebbe, that he carries within himself, if you explain to him that these realizations and these concerns are his own, he will come to your aid to the fullest extent of his means. I await good news on this subject and, if you adopt the appropriate approach, you will surely succeed.

You may tell him that the idea of addressing him in these terms comes from me, or even that I took the initiative, while expressing surprise at not having seen his name, until now, among the communal leaders of Chabad* in the Holy Land, knowing what relationship he maintained with my father-in-law, the Rebbe, when it entailed actual danger.

I was happy to learn that you intended to associate with your action the Rav Z. Sh. S. and the Rav M. Weber (Rav Zalman Schneersohn and Rav Moshe Weber, of Yerushalayim*), especially since they will be more specifically charged with saving the youth of the Holy Land, within the Chabad* youth association. This initiative is particularly wise. Obviously, it is necessary to rectify what must be rectified. Nevertheless, this action and what it implies also have an internal and Chassidic* dimension.

With my blessing for Chassidic* satisfaction from all your children, in good health and with breadth of spirit,

באיחור זמן נודע לי אודות פטירת אחותו - יבלחט"א - פייגא ע"ה והשי"ת ינחמו בתוך שאר אבלי ציון וירושלים ולא ידע עוד מכל צער ועגמ"נ ח"ו.

כן נבהלתי מהשמועה זה עתה, אודות פטירת הרה"ג והרה"ח צמ"ס כו' וכו' מוה"ר אברהם חיים נאה ע"ה ובודאי יודיע הפרטים בזה איך ומה, וכן כדאי בעוד מועד להבטיח (באווארענען) בהנוגע להכתבים וספרים הנשארים. היינו שמה שנשאר מהכתבים שלו ישתדלו ככל האפשרי להדפיסם ובפרט כתב לי מאז שמתעסק בהדפסת חלק מקצות השולחן וכן אם הי' נמצא אצל הנ"ל כתבי דא"ח או ספרים יקרי ערך אולי אפשר להחליף אותם בס' קה"ת או באופן אחר ולשלחם לכאן, ומובן שזה נוגע - הן לכתבים או לספרים - שאינם כאן ות"ח על טרחתו בזה, ומובן אשר יפה שעה אחת קודם.

בהנוגע להסברא לשלוח... ללמוד כאן, הנה כפי שנוכחתי מהשפעת אווירא דארצוה"ב על האברכים שבאו מאה"ק ת"ו הנה ברוב לא הצליח לע"ע אף כי תשועת ה' יכולה להיות כהרף עין וכיון שהתורה על הרוב תדבר, מסופקני אם זוהי הדרך לשלח תומ"י לכאן מבלי לנסות מקודם באופן שכתבתי לו מכבר (שבודאי הגיעו מכתבי בינתים).

ימים אלו נודעתי שבמשרד החינוך התורני אחד הפקידים הוא ד"ר ליפשיץ שהי' מלפנים במוסקבה ושמר תומ"צ במס"נ וכ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר זצוקללה"ה נבג"מ זי"ע שתפו בכמה פעולות ועזרו בעניניו ובודאי אם הי' מעוררים אצלו נימי התקשרותו לכ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר ויסבירו לו שהן הן הפעולות והן הן הענינים בודאי שהי' מסייע בכל יכולתו בזה ואחכה לבשו"ט בזה, ואם רק ימצאו הגישה המתאימה להנ"ל בודאי יצליחו בזה וגם ברשותו לומר לו שעוררתיו עד"ז או גם לומר לו שההתעוררות באה מצדי בצירוף תמיהתי שעד עתה לא מצאתי שמו בתוככי המתעסקים בכרם חב"ד באה"ק ת"ו בידעי היחס שלו לעניני כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר בשעה שהי' זה כרוך אפילו בסכנה ממש.

נהניתי ממ"ש שבדעתו לצרף הר"ז ש"ס והר"מ וובר שיחיו והעיקר מפעלם להצלת הנוער באה"ק ת"ו במסגרת צעירי אגו"ח שנכון הדבר במאד מאד ומובן שהצריך תיקון יש לתקן אבל העבודה והענינים הם ענינים פנימים וחסידותיים.

בברכה לנחת חסידותי מכל ילידי' שיחיו מתוך בריאות הנכונה והרחבת הדעת.
