To the Rav, distinguished Chassid* who fears Hashem and devotes himself to communal needs, the Rav Yisrael Noach (Rav I. N. Belinitski, of the Yeshivah* of Brunoy; see, concerning him, letter no. 937),

Greetings and blessing,

I appreciate the stories of Tzaddikim* that you append to your letters. You will surely continue to do so in the future. I thank you in advance.

You relate to me the visit of the Rabbi of Shpole (Rabbi Leib, the "grandfather" of Shpole, who was one of the great disciples of the Maggid of Mezeritch*) to the Alter Rebbe*. I have noted a story of my father-in-law, the Rebbe, on this subject, according to which he said to the Alter Rebbe*:

"You have begun the writing of a 'Book of the Righteous,' but the world cannot bear it. An accusation was brought on high and it was decided that it would be burned. But, in that flame, I myself will ensure its elevation to heaven."

This is indeed what happened. During this fire, the Rebbe, the "grandfather" of Shpole, departed this world.

במ"ש אודות הרה"צ משפאליע בהיותו אצל אדמוה"ז, הנה רשום אצלי בסיפור כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר אודותו בזה, שאמר לאדה"ז איר האט אנגעהייבן שרייבען א ספר של צדיקים און די וועלט קען דאס ניט פארטראגען זיינען נתעורר געווארען קטרוגים למעלה ופסקו שישרף, ואני אעלה באותו להב השמימה, וכן הי' שבזמן השריפה נסתלק הרה"צ הסבא משפאליע.
