Greetings and blessing,

I have duly received your request for a blessing for your son who is in the army. I will mention his name, at a propitious moment, when I am at the resting place, so that Hashem protect him in every place where he will be and that he return in good health to his home, when the time comes.

For your part, you will surely explain to your son that, in order to elicit and integrate the blessings of Hashem, one must forge channels and receptacles, which are a conduct based on the Torah and the mitzvos*.

Indeed, this country is democratic and it is therefore possible, even in the army, to have a conduct that accords with the Torah. You will find, below, a list of works that it would be good for your son to be able to read.

In particular, your son must engrave in his heart the absolute necessity of putting on tefillin* every day. A few minutes suffice for this and, if it is not possible to do so in the morning, one can still accomplish this mitzvah* throughout the day. Tefillin* are a personal obligation and they have, in addition, the property of protecting Jews who are in the army.

As you know, during the last war, all those who addressed themselves to my father-in-law, the Rebbe, whose merit will protect us, to solicit his blessing and who respected the instruction he gave them — to put on tefillin* every day — returned home safe and sound.

שלום וברכה!

נתקבלה בקשתו לברכה בעד בנו אשר בצבא... ואזכירו בעת רצון על הציון שהשי"ת ישמרהו בכל מקום שהוא וישוב לביתו שלום בעתו.

בטח מצדו יסביר לבנו שי' אשר כדי להמשיך ולקבל ברכות השי"ת צריך לעשות צנורות וכלים לזה שזהו ההנהגה על פי התורה ומצוותי', ואשר גם בהיותו בצבא אפשר להתנהג על פי התורה בהתאם לשיטת הדמוקרטי' של מדינה זו. ורשום למטה מאמרים בענין זה אשר כדאי לבנו שי' לקראם.

ובפרט צריך לחקוק על לוח לבו של בנו שי' החיוב להניח תפילין בכל יום שלזה צריך רק רגעים אחדים, ואם אי אפשר לעשות כן בבקר, הרי זמנו כל היום הוא, ומלבד חובת גברא שבזה הרי סגולה במצות תפילין לשמור על אחב"י בצבא, וכמו שידוע לנו מהמלחמה האחרונה אשר כל אלה שפנו לכ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר [זצוקללה"ה נבג"מ זי"ע] לברכה ושמרו פקודתו להניח תפילין בכל יום ששבו הביתה לשלום.
