Greetings and blessing,

I reply to your letter of 10 Menachem Av and to those that preceded it.

I was happy to learn that you still participate in the public prayer services, that you endeavor to influence others in this direction, and that you recite texts by heart when you go to your work. It is difficult to imagine how one purifies the atmosphere (see letter no. 132, which also reports the words of the previous Rebbe) by acting in this way, as my father-in-law, the Rebbe, says in the call to awareness through which he asks that Mishnah* be recited by heart.

It would be good for you to learn by heart also a few chapters of Tanya*, which you will recite on the way there and back (from work).

You ask me how to distribute the tithe that you set aside for tzedakah*. I replied to someone who asked me the same question that he could send me half of it, in a permissible manner, so that I ensure its distribution myself, and then distribute the second half himself, of which one half (i.e., a quarter of the total) would go to the institutions of my father-in-law, the Rebbe, in the Holy Land, and the other half to whomever he sees fit.

Our Sages say that one does not calculate precisely the amount one gives to tzedakah*. You will therefore set aside a bit more than a tenth.

במענה על מכתבו מיו"ד מנ"א והקודמים,

נהניתי ממה שכותב אודות הזהירות שלו בתפלה בציבור ההשתדלות בהשפעה על הזולת וכן החזרה בע"פ בהליכתו לעבודתו, אשר ענין טהרת האויר עי"ז אין די באר וכמובא בכרוז ההתעוררות של כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר על דבר חזרת משניות ע"פ, ומהנכון שידע בע"פ איזה פרקים מתניא ויחזרם ג"כ בע"פ בהליכתו ובחזירתו...

בשאלתו באיזה אופן יחלק מעשר שמפריש לצדקה, עניתי לאחד על שאלתו בכגון דא שאם ברצונו ישלח באופן המותר המחצה לחלק על דעתי והמחצה יחלק בעצמו וממנה החצי על מוסדות כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר באה"ק ת"ו והחצי כראות בעיניו. ועל פי אזהרת רז"ל שלא לדקדק בצדקה צריך להפריש עכ"פ איזה סכום יותר ממעשר...
