To the Rav, distinguished Chassid* who fears Hashem, the Rav Moshe (Rav M. Dreizin),
Greetings and blessing,
I reply to your letter, in which you propose to establish a directory of the former students of the Yeshivah* Lubavitch who reside in the United States, specifying their addresses.
This is a wise initiative, but a limited one. A few years ago, it was proposed to establish such a directory (see, on this subject, letter no. 1357), listing all the former students of the Yeshivah* Lubavitch, whether they are still alive or not. For various reasons, it has not yet been possible to accomplish this.
On this occasion, I would like to know whether you have a list of those who studied in Vilna and in Warsaw (in the Lubavitch Yeshivah* of those cities), with probable information about each of them — at least their year of birth, the duration and location of their studies, their activity after leaving the Yeshivah*.

במענה על מכתבו בו כותב אודות הרעיון לרשום בספר כל תלמידי תומכי תמימים הנמצאים בארצוה"ב עם הכתבת שלהם וכו'.
הנה הצעה נכונה היא אלא שמוגבלה וזה מאיזה שנים שיש הצעה לערוך רשימה כנ"ל מכל תלמידי תו"ת הן אלו אשר בחים חיותם וגם אלו אשר שחל"ח, אבל מפני כמה סיבות לא בא הדבר לפועל לע"ע.
ובהזדמנות הזו הנני לשאלו אם יש אצלו רשימה מאלו שלמדו בווילנא ובווארשא עם ידיעות האפשריות על כאו"א מהם היינו עכ"פ שנות לידתם כמה שנים למדו ואיפוא ובמה התעסקו לאחר לימודם בהישיבה.
