To the Rav, distinguished Chassid* who fears Hashem and devotes himself to communal needs, the Rav Yaakov (Rav Y. Gansburg, of Milan; see, concerning him, letters no. 1720 and 1825), the shochet*,

Greetings and blessing,

I thank you for the books you mention in your letter and which you have surely already sent. It is clear that the amount of the shipping costs and of the trips you make for this purpose must be communicated to my secretariat (in order to proceed with their reimbursement).

You know what my father-in-law, the Rebbe, says on this subject. When one does not accept reimbursement for such expenses and wishes to bear them oneself, one is, in the end, blocked in one's own advancement, for one furnishes an argument to the animal soul.

You will therefore adopt a conduct in conformity with the verse: "Be not overly righteous." You will indicate the amount of these costs and they will be reimbursed to you, with my thanks.

With my blessing that you settle well, materially and spiritually at once, and that you be inscribed and sealed for a good year,

ת"ח על הספרים שמזכיר במכתבו ושבטח כבר שלחם ומובן שהוצאות המשלוח וכן נסיעתו בענינים אלו עליו להודיע להמזכירות שלי, וכבר ידוע סיפור כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר בכגון דא שאם אין רוצים לקחת הוצאות כאלו וחפצים אויסנעמען כו' הרי סו"ס זה מונע בהעבודה כיון שלהנה"ב יש מה לטעון ובמילא גם הוא ינהג כמאמר הכתוב אל תצדק הרבה ויודיע ע"ד ההוצאות ויסולקו בצירוף תודה.
