Igrot Kodesh · Letter 289 — Book Distribution, Rosh Hashana Discourse, and Ma'amad Committee

By the grace of Hashem, 23 Elul 5707, To the learned Chassid* who fears Hashem, Rav B. Wilshanski [1], I greet and bless you,

I reply to your letters:

A) Additional books have been sent to you and you will no doubt confirm having received them. You will distribute them among the various Chassidic* communities in Paris, so that all may have access to the light of Torah* that emanates from them [2].

Likewise, I am sending you enclosed the Chassidic* discourse for Rosh Hashana*, which my father-in-law, the Rebbe Shlita*, transmitted in writing, so that it should reach the other continents as quickly as possible. You will surely duplicate it, in the appropriate manner, so that it may be studied in all the communities.

B) The collection of Ma'amad* [3] varies according to the conditions of each place. You will elect, by majority opinion, a Ma'amad* committee, which will act for the best. Quickly, experience will show whether the adopted organization is satisfactory or whether it must be modified.

[Footnote:] Light*, being spiritual, surpasses dew*, which is material, as Torah Or* explains. The light of Torah* is higher than the dew of Torah*. But dew enters the one who receives it, penetrates and adapts to his dimensions. This explains the differences in how the righteous received the manna*, not only in its effect. Light, by contrast, illuminates the King's palace and the place of impurity equally. The Rosh Hashana* discourse this year elaborates these notions.
