To the Rav, distinguished Chassid* who fears Hashem and devotes himself to communal needs, the Rav Avraham Sender (Rav A. S. Nemtzov; see, concerning him, letter no. 2837),

Greetings and blessing,

I reply to your letter of the first day of Rosh Chodesh*, with the copy that was appended. In fact, I learned with satisfaction of this letter you sent to the press. As you know, when indifference reigns toward the most fundamental values, one must, by all means, prevent torpor from taking hold.

You surely have my greetings through your son-in-law, distinguished Chassid* who fears Hashem and devotes himself to communal needs, the Rav Nissan (Rav Nissan Mindel, one of the secretaries of the Rebbe). I asked whether you were taking advantage of your stay near him to strengthen, in his surroundings, Jewish practice in general, Chassidus*, its study, its usages and its practices, in particular. I am convinced that this is indeed the case.

The Assembly of Israel (all the Jewish souls), speaking on behalf of every Jew, exclaims: "I sleep in exile, but my heart is awake for HaKadosh Baruch Hu*, for His Torah and His mitzvos*, for the redemption," as our Sages say, in the Midrash Shir HaShirim Rabbah*. It is said that "one comes to the aid of one who desires to purify himself" and this aid is manifold, as the Likkutei Torah* specifies, at Parshas Devarim, page 89d.

The month of Elul* finds itself between the Rosh Hashanah* of the animals (the beginning of tractate Rosh Hashanah states: "The first of Elul is the Rosh Hashanah for the tithe of animals") and that of men. May Hashem grant that each one of us succeed in transforming the animal (that each carries within himself, the animal soul) into a man.

במענה על מכתבו מאדר"ח עם ההעתקה, הנה נהניתי מהעתק מכתבו שישלח להמכ"ע וכידוע אשר בזמן שהקרירות שוררת מהענינים העיקרים הוא ניט לאזין איינשלאפען באיזה אופן שיהי'.

בודאי קבל הפ"ש ע"י חתנו הוו"ח אי"א נו"נ עוסק בצ"צ מוה"ר ניסן שי' וגם בקשתי ובטחוני שמנצל זמן שהותו בסביבתו עתה להוסיף בה יהדות בכלל ועניני חסידות תורתה הדרכותי' ומנהגי' בפרט וכבר ידוע מאמר כנסת ישראל בשם כאו"א מישראל אשר אף שאני ישנה בגלותא לבי ער להקב"ה לתורתו ומצותיו ולגאולה וכו' וכדרז"ל בשה"ש רבה והבא לטהר מסייעין אותו מסייעין לשון רבים (עיין לקו"ת דברים פט, ד).

ובחדש אלול שהוא הנמצא בין ראש השנה לבהמה ור"ה לאדם יצליח השי"ת את כאו"א מאתנו להפוך את הבהמה לאדם.
