Greetings and blessing,

I duly received your letter of 28 Menachem Av. It is with sorrow that I read between the lines the manner in which your financial difficulties have been, in your view, the cause of your moral distress.

I am particularly surprised to find that a Torah scholar and a woman who received her education in a Chassidic* home consider themselves to be in moral distress because of financial problems, the real importance of which is debatable and which, in any case, are only temporary.

You know the statement of our Sages that "the wheel turns." My father-in-law, the Rebbe, whose merit will protect us, explains that a point on the wheel, when it finds itself at the lowest stage, which Hashem should spare us, can subsequently only rise again. Practice demonstrates that this is indeed so.

Now, an image articulated by the Torah describes, in every detail, what it is meant to illustrate. One who perceives a lack, including in the material domain, must ask Hashem to fill it. Such is the definition of the mitzvah* of prayer, according to several of the early Sages. On the other hand, Hashem should protect us from discouragement! It is not possible that one should not be troubled in one's service of the Creator, which, in such a case, is no longer what it should be.

I hope that these few lines will be sufficient. As the Alter Rebbe* says in his Likkutei Torah*, at Parshas Reeh, page 32b, whoever desires it can, in these days, go to meet the King, King of kings, HaKadosh Baruch Hu*. He welcomes each person warmly, shows a benevolent countenance, as it is said: "Hashem will cause His Face to shine upon you." May Hashem therefore have mercy upon you and grant you your sustenance, in the manner that is fitting and with tranquility, with breadth of mind.

You will inform me that you are redoubling your ardor in the influence you exert upon your surroundings, bringing them closer to Chassidus* by disseminating the wellsprings outward.

With my blessing that you be inscribed and sealed for a good year and that you give good news,

מאשר הנני קבלת מכתבם מכ"ח מנ"א ונצטערתי ממה שנראה מבין השיטים שהמצוקה כספית שלפי דעתם בה נמצאים פעלה עליהם מצוקה רוחנית ולפלא גדול ביותר שבן תורה וחניכה מבית חסידותי ירגישו את עצמם במיצר רוחני מפני מצוקה כספית שלא לבד שבספק אם גדולה היא אלא בכלל ענינה הרי בכל אופן ענין עובר הוא וכבר ידוע מרז"ל אשר גלגל החוזר הוא וביאר כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר זצוקללה"ה נבג"מ זי"ע אשר בגלגל כשנמצאים בנקודה יותר תחתונה ח"ו ה"ז הוכחה גמורה שסמוך לה העלי' למעלה וכנראה במשל בגלגל הגשמי והרי משלי התורה מכוונים בכל הפרטים להנמשל, ואף כי אפילו מי שרק נדמה לו שחסר לו דבר אפילו רק דבר גשמי עליו להתפלל להשי"ת כי ימלא החסרון כי ה"ז ענין מצות התפלה לדעת כמה ראשונים אבל ח"ו וח"ו שיפול עי"ז ברוחו שא"א שלא יבולבל על ידי נפילה זו מעבודתו לבורא העולם כפי הנדרש ממנו.

תקותי ששורותי אלו המועטות תספיקנה, ובימים אלו אשר כלשון רבנו הזקן בלקו"ת פ' ראה דף ל"ב ע"ב הנה ממה"מ הקב"ה רשאין כל מי שרוצה לצאת להקביל פניו והוא מקבל את כולם בסבר פנים יפות ומראה פנים שוחקות לכולם וכמ"ש יאר ה' פניו אליך, הרי יה"ר וירחם השי"ת שימצא פרנסתו בכשרות במנוחה ומתוך הרחבת הדעת ויבשר אשר מוסיפים אומץ בהשפעה על הסביבה לקרבם לחסידות ע"י הפצת המעינות חוצה.
