Greetings and blessing,

I reply to your letter. You describe your family situation, in particular concerning kashrus*. As you know, one must, above all, seek peace, that is to say, act in a pleasant manner, explain that the Torah and the mitzvos* constitute the good of man, for his soul as for his body, in this world as in the World to Come.

This is particularly true for the kashrus* of food and drink which, according to the expression of the Alter Rebbe* in the holy Tanya*, become one with the flesh and the blood. The Jewish body cannot tolerate foods that are not kosher, even if a long delay is sometimes necessary before seeing the negative consequences, which Hashem should spare us.

It is clear that normally constituted persons, endowed with discernment, will do nothing that gravely compromises their physical integrity, even if the ailment reveals itself only several years later. And, if you add that your motivation is not to frighten, but to show love for your fellow, in general, and for a close relative in particular, which is an absolute necessity.

Words emanating from the heart will penetrate into the heart. May Hashem make it so easily and as soon as possible.

Concerning the obtainment of your visa, you tell me that a certain delay is still necessary and I am surprised by this. Indeed, the request for its issuance comes from a well-known school. I therefore have good hope that the appropriate effort on the part of this school, as you describe in your letter, will bear fruit.

You tell me that your wedding will be set for the 13th, the eve of the 14th, of the month of redemption, that of Kislev*. May Hashem make it a good and fruitful moment. In the invitation card, you may also mention the date of the 14th, but to say "eve," you will use the word "Or" rather than "Leil," in order to adopt the formulation of the Sages in the Mishnah*.

I enclose an excerpt from the discourse of the Shabbos* that blesses the month of Elul* 5711. Its content is valid throughout the year and every year. You will surely make use of it in the appropriate manner.

במענה על מכתבו, הנה במה שכותב אודות המצב במשפחתו ובפרט בנוגע לכשרות, הנה ידוע שלכל לראש צריכה להיות קריאה בשלום היינו הליכה בדרכי נועם ולברר לפניהם שהתורה ומצות בכלל הן טובת האדם הן בנוגע לנשמה והן בנוגע לגוף הן בנוגע בעוה"ז והן בעולם הבא, ובפרט בכשרות האכילה ושתי' שכלשון רבנו הזקן בתניא קדישא נעשה דם ובשר כבשרו הנה מאכלות בלתי כשרות אין הגוף הישראלי יכול לסובלם, ואף שלפעמים מאריך הזמן עד שנראה תוצאות לא טובות ח"ו, הרי מובן שאנשים נורמלים ובשכל בריא לא יעשו שום דבר שיקלקל בריאות גופו באופן קשה אף אם יתגלה הקלקול רק לאחר כמה שנים, וכשיוסיף שאין הענין כדי להפחיד עליו אלא מצד אהבת ישראל בכלל ואהבת קרוב ובן בפרט מוכרח לשמור את הקרובים מכל נזק ח"ו הרי דברים היוצאים מן הלב נכנסים אל הלב. ויה"ר מהשי"ת שיהי' זה בנקל ובהקדם.

בהנוגע לקבלת הוויזה שלו הנה לפלא מ"ש שהדבר צריך להתארך כמה זמן שכיון שהבקשה בזה באה מצד מוסד חינוך ידוע, ותקותי חזקה שכשישתדלו באופן שכותב במכתבו מצד המוסד יצליח השי"ת.

מה שכותב אודות קביעות זמן חתונתם לי"ג אור לי"ד חדש הגאולה חדש כסלו הבע"ל, הנה יה"ר מהשי"ת שיהי' בשעה טובה ומוצלחת, ויוכל לכתוב בהזמנה גם י"ד כסלו אבל לא הלשון ליל אלא אור לי"ד ושנו חכמים בלשון המשנה.
