To the Rav, distinguished Chassid* who fears Hashem and devotes himself to communal needs, the Rav Yehoshua Shneur Zalman (Rav Y. Sh. Z. Serebrianski; see, concerning him, letter no. 2681),

Greetings and blessing,

I am surprised to have received no letter from you for some time, especially since the young Herzog (Rav Yaakov Eliezer Herzog; see, concerning him, letter no. 2766) announced good news to me, telling me that shortly before his departure (from Australia), a positive development of the Yeshivah* (of Melbourne) could be observed. You will doubtless write to me in detail on this subject.

You are considering bringing older students from Paris and from the Holy Land to the location. This will entail very great expenses. Moreover, one may ask in what way those who come and do not speak English will be able to influence those who were born in Australia. Finally, there will be a great difference between the knowledge of these students and those who are already on site.

The Divine Presence is in exile, the Assembly of Israel (the Jewish souls) is likewise. Consequently, the Jews are also in exile and the closer one is to the domain of Holiness, the more one is subjected to the veil. For all that, you must not become discouraged, for in the end we will achieve victory.

Certainly, it is said that "I will drive him out (the evil, and not all at once) little by little" and various texts explain why this is so. And, you have been able to see all of this concretely in the countries where you were previously. Nevertheless, it is said that "the sooner the better." One must therefore occupy the time, make use of it while you are only few in number to provide this form of education. You must understand what I mean.

It is, of course, positive that Rav I. D. Groner (Rav Yitzchak David Groner, currently director of the Lubavitch institutions of Australia) remain on site. Nevertheless, he is attached to one of the branches of the Yeshivah* that is here, located in the city of Buffalo. Before his journey (to Australia), he promised that he would continue to work there. He must therefore discuss this with the center of the Yeshivos* Lubavitch, which is here. It is only afterward that one can endeavor to make it so (that he remain in Australia). If there is a possibility that this branch of the Yeshivah* can function without him, it is conceivable that Rav Groner could remain with you for a certain time.

In order for this proposal to be accepted more easily, it may be good to propose a donation for the center of the Yeshivos*.

לפלא שזה מזמן שאין ממנו כל מכתבים. ובפרט שקבלתי בשו"ט מהאברך הרצוג שי' אשר בהימים שלפני נסעו היתה ניכרת הזזה לטובה בעניני הישיבה. ובודאי יכתוב בפרטיות.

מ"ש אודות הסברא להביא לשם תלמידים גדולים מפריז ואה"ק ת"ו, הנה נוסף על ההוצאה כספיות הכי גדולות שבזה, צריך עיון באיזה אופן ישפיעו הנ"ל על ילדי [אוסטרליה] שאין מדברים אנגלית אלו שיבואו. וכן הרי יהי' הפסק בין רמת הידיעות של התלמידים שיבואו - לאלו שנמצאים על אתר.

ואל יפול רוחם בקרבם, על אשר (מפני ששכינתא בגלותא, כנס"י בגלות, ובמילא) בנ"י בגלות, וכל הקדוש יותר - הגלות מעלים עליו יותר, כי סו"ס יהי' דידן נצח, אף כי לאט לאט אגרשנו, וכמו שנתבאר הענין בכ"מ, וכמו שראו ג"כ במוחש באותם הארצות שכבר היו שם. אלא, שכמו בכל עניני קדושה - הרי יפה שעה אחת קודם, ובפרט שצריך למלאות הזמן ולנצלו כל זמן שיחידים הם באופן חינוך כזה, וד"ל.

בהנוגע שישאר שם הרה"ח וכו' הרי"ד שי' [גרונר], הרי בטח נכון הדבר. אלא שכיון שקשור עם מחלקת הישיבה דכאן שבעיר בופאלא - וכנראה שקודם נסיעתו הבטיח להם המשך העבודה בשם, הרי צריך הנ"ל לבוא בדברים עם המרכז דתת"ל בכאן בכיוון זה, ורק אח"כ אפשר יהי' להשתדל בדבר, ובאם ימצאו האפשריות שתתקיים מחלקת הישיבה בלעדו, יהיו סיכויים שישאר הרב [גרונר] שי' במחנם למשך זמן. ואפשר כדאי, שבכדי שתתקבל ההצעה יותר - יש מקום לקשר זה עם ענין של הכנסה בשביל הישיבה המרכזית.
