Greetings and blessing,

I reply to your express letter and I am pleased to learn that the Tanya* is now part of your public classes (see letter no. 2912). You note that greater enthusiasm remains necessary. You know that all Jews form one single body. When one of the members is vivified, the others must therefore be so as well, even if one begins with the member that listens and not with the one that speaks.

Obviously, I do not mean that the one who speaks should rely on the one who listens. For all that, an effort is also necessary on the part of the latter and it is said that "Hashem illuminates the eyes of both" (of the one who gives and the one who receives, of the one who speaks and the one who listens).

You speak to me of a young boy and you ask me where he should continue his studies next year. On this point, one must consult his teachers and educators, who are in daily contact with him. One must take into account their observations, for they observe him when he studies, when he is with his friends, and they are objective.

The parents, on the other hand, are not, because of the love they bear for their children. They have difficulty considering reality as it truly is. They desire the true good of this child, for long days and good years, and not only in the short term. Of course, it may be justified to impose deprivation upon him in a temporary manner, so that in this way he follows a straight path and his parents derive satisfaction from him, for long days and good years.

As you request, I will mention all those you cite near the holy resting place of my father-in-law, the Rebbe, whose merit will protect us. And, may Hashem cause that you be able soon to announce good news.

With my blessing that you be inscribed and sealed for a good year, that you succeed in particular in earning your livelihood,

במענה על מכתבו המהיר, הנה נעם לי לקרות בו אשר נסתדר ענין לימוד התניא ברבים בהשיעורים שלהם. ומ"ש שעדיין צריך יותר התלהבות, הרי ידוע אשר כל בני ישראל הם קומה שלימה ובמילא כאשר נתוסף חיות והתלהבות באיזה איבר שיהי' מהקומה מוכרח שיתוסף התלהבות ג"כ בהשאר, ואפילו כשההתחלה בזה מאבר השומע ולא מאבר המדבר. מובן שאין כוונתי בזה שהמדבר יסמוך על השומע, אבל לאידך גיסא גם השומע עצמו צריך לעשות בהנ"ל ומאיר עיני שניהם ה'.

מ"ש אודות... שי' ומקום לימוד לזמן הבע"ל הרי בענינים כמו אלו צריך להתייעץ עם מוריו ומחנכיו הנפגשים אתו מדי יום ביומו ולהתחשב עם הוראותיהם כיון שהם הרואים את הנער בעת לימודו ובעת היותו עם חבריו, ורואים בלי נטי', משא"כ הורים אשר חשודים הם מפני אהבת ההורים לילידיהם להביט על הענינים ולראותם לא כמו שהם באמת, וכיון שרצון הורים וחפצם הוא טובת הנער לאמיתתה ולאורך ימים ולא טובה זמנית הנה מובן שכדאי חסרון בעניני הנער לפי שעה ובלבד שילך בדרך הישר ויתענגו ממנו לארך ימים ושנים...

כבקשתו אזכיר את כל אלו שכותב אודותם על הציון הק' של כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר זצוקללה"ה נבג"מ זי"ע והשי"ת יצליחו לבשר טוב בקרוב.
