Greetings and blessing,

I duly received your letter of 5 Elul*, at the beginning of which you tell me that you come from a Chabad* family. You therefore wish for us to correspond and you wish to become active.

Logically, after having introduced your letter in this way, you should have continued by explaining in what manner you intend to contribute to the Chabad* community. Now, instead of this, I find only two points in your letter, which are, in fact, questions you pose about Chabad* practices.

The Zohar*, volume 3, page 124b, explains that "from the side of the Tree of Life, there are no questions, for these emanate from the domain of evil, nor controversies, which are an effect of the spirit of impurity." The Alter Rebbe* explains all of this at length in Iggeres HaKodesh*, chapter 26.

If you truly wish to succeed in the study of the Torah in general and of Chassidus* in particular, you will only achieve it by putting into practice the principle: "We will do and (then) we will understand." It is on this basis that the Torah was given in its entirety. It is also in this manner that it is given each day and it is for this reason that one recites the blessing "He Who gives the Torah," in the present tense. And, it is concerning this that it is said: "The integrity of the upright guides them." On the other hand, if this is not the case....

May Hashem deliver you from obstacles and veils. Thus, you will be able to study the Torah with a pure fear of Hashem.

נתקבל מכתבו מה' אלול והתחלתו איך שמוצאו מגזע חב"ד ורוצה להתכתב ושגם חלקו יהי' בזה.

הנה לאחרי התחלה כזו הנה ע"פ דרך ההגיון צריך הי' להמשיך בהשקפתו באיזה אופן ישתתף בעדת חב"ד ותמורת זה הנה במכתבו שני ענינים... הקושיות שיש לו על הנהגת חב"ד. והנה ידוע מאמר הזהר הק' (חלק ג' דף קכ"ד ע"ב) דמסטרא דאילנא דחיי לית תמן - לא קושיא מסטרא דרע ולא מחלוקת מרוח הטומאה, ונתבאר בארוכה באגה"ק לרבנו הזקן סי' כ"ו.

ואם רצונו באמת להצליח בלימוד התורה בכלל ובלימוד החסידות בפרט - הרי אין לזה דרך אחרת אלא ע"י הקדמת נעשה לנשמע, שבאופן כזה הי' המתן תורה הכללי, ובאופן כזה הוא מתן תורה שבכל יום - וכנוסח הברכה נותן התורה לשון הווה - וע"ז נאמר תומת ישרים תנחם גו', וא"ל כו'.

והשי"ת יסיר ממנו את ההעלמות וההסתרים ויוכל ללמוד תורה ביראת שמים טהורה.
