Greetings and blessing,

I reply to your letter of 13 Menachem Av, in which you inform me that you have renounced your insistence on remaining in the Yeshivah* Lubavitch. You can no longer reverse your decision not to resume your studies within this Yeshivah*. You therefore ask me what profession you should choose.

An analogy will help you understand your situation. Someone wishes, for a certain time, to harm his own person, morally and therefore also physically. And, he asks me in what manner he should do so.

May Hashem cause, by the merit of your ancestors, that you become aware of the truth and the good, materially and spiritually at once, by remaining in the tent of the study of the revealed part of the Torah and of Chassidus*.

May Hashem cause it to be so while the harm you are causing yourself is still small.

With my blessing that you be inscribed and sealed for a good year,

במענה על מכתבו מי"ג מנ"א בו כותב שוותר על עקשנ[ו]תו להשאר בישיבת תומכי תמימים ולא יוכל לוותר על החלטתו שלא לחזור להלימודים בהישיבה ובמילא שואל ממני באיזה מקצוע להסתדר וכו', ולמה הדבר דומה לאחד שרוצה לחבול בעצמו ברוחניות ובמילא גם בגשמיות במשך הזמן ושואל דעתי באיזה אופן לחבול.

ויזכהו השי"ת בזכות אבותיו שיראה את האמת והטוב לפניו בגשמיות [ו]ברוחניות גם יחד היינו לימוד באהלה של תורה בנגלה ובחסידות. ויה"ר שיהי' בעוד החבלה בעצמו עדיין מועטת.
