Greetings and blessing,

I reply to your letter of Sunday of Parshas Nitzavim, in which you tell me that it is important to have a knife checked by two shochtim* (before using it for ritual slaughter). It is certain that this is an excellent precaution. Nevertheless, everything depends on the Rabbanim* and above all on those who perform the shechitah*.

Unfortunately, the situation improves only slowly. Certainly, nothing can withstand the will, so that all parties, if they truly wished it and showed the necessary determination, would ensure that this be instituted.

You inform me, in your letter, of the argument that is raised against you — the fact that this double verification does not exist for my shechitah*. First of all, there is no slaughterhouse under Lubavitch supervision here, so I do not know what is called my shechitah*. Moreover, one must draw no proof from this to lighten the supervision or the halachah*.

As you request, I will mention your name near the holy resting place of my father-in-law, the Rebbe, whose merit will protect us, that you be inscribed and sealed, together with all the members of your family, for a good and sweet year, materially and spiritually.

במענה על מכתבו מא' נצבים, מ"ש אודות הנחיצות דבדיקת הסכין ע"י שני שובי"ם בודאי נכון הוא במאד, אלא שהדבר תלוי בהרבנים והעיקר בהשובי"ם, ולצערנו רק לאט לאט הולך המצב ומשתפר, אף שאין לך דבר העומד בפני הרצון ואם היו הרבנים והשובי"ם רוצים באמת ובתוקף המתאים היו מצליחים בזה.

ומה שמזכיר במכתבו שאמרו לו שגם בהשחיטה שלי אין בדיקת שני שובי"ם, הנה אין כאן בית שחיטה בהשגחת ליובאוויטש ובמילא אינו מובן מהו הפירוש שחיטה שלי, ועאכו"כ שאין להביא ראי' מזה לאיזה הכשרים וקולות.

כבקשתו אזכירו על הציון הק' של כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר זצוקללה"ה נבג"מ זי"ע לכתיבה וחתימה טובה ויכתב ויחתם הוא וכל ב"ב לשנה טובה ומתוקה בגשמיות וברוחניות גם יחד.
