Blessing and greetings (this letter is addressed to a woman),
I reply to your letter of 22 Elul* and I was glad to learn that you continue to educate Jewish children in the values of holiness, bringing their hearts closer to our Father Who is in Heaven.
A saying of the Baal Shem Tov* (see, on this subject, letter no. 1964) allows one to understand the importance of such an accomplishment. He says that the love of Hashem for every Jew and every Jewish woman is infinitely more intense than that of elderly parents for their only son, born when they were already advanced in age. One can conclude from this the greatness of the merit accorded to those who act in this direction.
You mention your contribution to tzedakah*. You ask me whether you should devote a larger sum than what you have given until now. You will therefore increase by fifty percent the tithe that you have given until this day. And you will set aside another fifty percent, which will establish your contribution at one fifth of your income. With what you set aside, you will purchase clothing and jewelry for your wedding.
May Hashem cause that the coming year be good and sweet for you, materially and spiritually, within all the people of Israel. And you will give good news of all that concerns you.
With my blessing that you be inscribed and sealed for a good year,

במענה על מכתבך מכ"ב אלול. נהניתי מזה שממשיכה בעבודתה בקדש לחנך ילדי ישראל על טהרת הקדש המקרב את לבם לאבינו שבשמים, וגודל הענין בזה מובן מפתגם הבעש"ט אשר אהבת הקב"ה לכל אחד ואחת מישראל היא גדולה שלא בערך מאהבת הורים לבנם יחידם שנולד אצלם לימי זקנותם ובמילא מובן מזה גם שכר אלו שזיכם השי"ת לפעול בזה.
במה שכותבת אודות הפרשותי' לצדקה, הנה כיון ששואלת אם להפריש יותר ממה שנהגה עד עתה, הרי תוסיף על המעשר שהפרישה עד עתה באופן שיהי' מעשר וחצי והחצי השני להשלים לחומש תניח הצדה ויהי' להוצאות לבושים ותכשיטים השייכים לחתונה,
ויתן השי"ת אשר השנה הבע"ל תהי' אצלה שנה טובה ומתוקה בגשמיות וברוחניות גם יחד בתוך כלל ישראל, ותבשר טובות בעניני'.
