To the Rav, distinguished Chassid* who fears Hashem and devotes himself to communal needs, the Rav Yosef (Rav Y. Goldstein, of Cincinnati),

Greetings and blessing,

I duly received your letter of the first day of Selichos*, with the request for blessing that accompanied it.

May Hashem enable you to fulfill the saying of my father-in-law, the Rebbe, whose merit will protect us, according to which "one action is preferable to a thousand complaints" (see letters no. 2945 and 2948). It is said that "HaKadosh Baruch Hu* does not act with malice toward His creatures" and Divine Providence has led you to the place where you now find yourself. You therefore possess the necessary strength to accomplish what is incumbent upon you, in order to build for Hashem a dwelling place here below.

Chassidus* explains what this dwelling place is. A man who is in his home reveals himself there through the very quintessence of his being. One therefore cannot avoid perceiving the Divinity. Certainly, it is said that "no thought can grasp You." One can do so, however, through the Torah and the mitzvos*. But, subsequently, one must fill the faculties of one's intellect — Chochmah*, Binah*, and Daas* — by comprehending Hashem, by meditating and deepening this reflection.

On the occasion of the new year, which approaches, for us and for all Israel, for good and for blessing, I send my wishes to you, as well as to all of yours, that you be inscribed and sealed for a good and sweet year, materially and spiritually.

N.B.: You surely know that the son of one of the elder Chassidim* resides in Cincinnati. This Chassid* is mentioned in several talks of my father-in-law, the Rebbe. His son is named Michael and he is known as Dr. Wilenski. His address is noted below.

He possesses manuscripts that he wishes to send here (see, on this subject, letter no. 2880), but this is difficult for him, for health reasons. It would be good for you to visit him, of course after having arranged the time with him. You will take charge of all the steps, or you will have those who work with you do so. Obviously, I will cover all the expenses that result. I thank you in advance.

מאשר הנני קבלת מכתבו מא' דסליחות עם הפ"נ המוסגר בו, ויה"ר שיגשם בפועל פתגם כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר זצוקללה"ה נבג"מ זי"ע אשר טובה פעולה אחת מאלף אנחות, וכיון שאין הקב"ה בא בטרוניא עם בריותיו וההשגחה פרטית הביאתו דוקא במקומו עתה הרי בודאי שניתנו לו הכחות אשר דוקא שם ימלא חלקו בעשיית דירה לו ית' בתחתונים, וכמבואר בדא"ח הנקודה בזה שהוא עד"מ שהאדם בדירתו נמצא הוא וכל עצמותו בגלוי, שמזה מובן שאי אפשר בלי הידיעה באלקות אשר אף דלית מח' תפיסא בי' כ"א כאשר תפיסא ומתלבשת בתומ"צ אבל מובן שלאח"ז צ"ל גם כח החב"ד ממולא מזה ע"י השכלה והבנה והתעמקות בידיעת השם.

ולקראת השנה החדשה הבאה עלינו ועל כל ישראל לטובה ולברכה הנני בזה להביע ברכתי לו ולכל אשר לו, ברכת כתיבה וחתימה טובה לשנה טובה ומתוקה בגשמיות וברוחניות.

בודאי נודע לו שבסינסינעטי דר בנו של אחד החסידים הישנים - המוזכר בכמה מקומות בשיחות כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר - ושמו הוא מיכאל המכונה ד"ר ווילענסקי, ואדריסתו רשום למטה, ואצלו נמצאים כתבים שברצונו לשלחם לכאן, ואולם מפני מצב בריאותו קשה עליו הטרחה, וייטיב לבקרו - כמובן לאחר שיתדבר עמדו אודות הזמן - ולקחת על עצמו או ע"י עושי רצונו כל הטרחה שבזה, ומובן שההוצאות הכספיות הם על חשבוני. ות"ח מראש על הטרחה בזה.
