Greetings and blessing,
I reply to your letter of 21 Elul*. As you request, I will mention your name near the holy resting place of my father-in-law, the Rebbe, whose merit will protect us, that you be inscribed and sealed for a good year.
You ask my opinion on the matter of covering the head. I am surprised by such a question, especially in the way you formulate it. You say that she would wear a wig covering the entire head, with the exception of the width of two fingers that would remain uncovered. I do not understand whom one wishes to deceive in this manner — surely not the Almighty, nor even others. One can therefore only deceive oneself and what is the use of doing so?
Obviously, this is but an entirely secondary response, for the essential one is clearly expressed by the Shulchan Aruch*. There is therefore no reason to pose questions or to be in doubt. I am sure that by addressing her in a friendly manner, through successive approaches, your fiancée will accept your position, the one that must be held in this matter.
On the occasion of the new year, which approaches, for us and for all Israel, for good and for blessing, may Hashem cause that you be inscribed and sealed for a good and sweet year and that you use your influence upon your surroundings, so that the soldiers you associate with enlist in the army of Hashem.

במענה על מכתבו מכ"א אלול, הנה כבקשתו אזכירו על הציון הק' של כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר זצוקללה"ה נבג"מ זי"ע לכתיבה וחתימה טובה.
ומה ששואל חוות-דעתי אודות ענין דכיסוי הראש, פליאה לי על השאלה בזה, ובפרט בצורתה כמו שכותב שתלבש פארוק שכל הראש יהי' מכוסה רק שתי אצבעות מלפנים מגולים, שאינו מובן את מי רוצים לרמות בזה, דפשיטא שלא את הכל יכול ואפילו לא את העולם, כי אם את עצמו. ומה תועלת בכגון דא.
ומובן שזהו רק בתור סניף דסניף כי הרי הדין מפורש בשו"ע ובמילא אין מקום לשאלה וספק, ומובטחני שבדרכי נועם בפעם אחר פעם הדבור בזה תסכים המדוברת לדעתו הרצוי' בזה.
ולקראת השנה החדשה הבאה עלינו ועל כל ישראל לטובה הרי יכתב ויחתם לשנה טובה ומתוקה וינצל השפעתו בסביבתו בתוככי אנשי חיל לעשותם חילים בצבאות ה'.
