To the Rav, distinguished Chassid* who fears Hashem and devotes himself to communal needs, the Rav Shimon Baruch (Rav Sh. B. Ohayon), the Shochet*,

Greetings and blessing,

I received with pleasure your letter of the eve of Hoshana Rabbah*, which followed a long silence.

I received your blessing and, in turn, I address mine to you, on the day after Shabbos Bereishis*, at the beginning of this year, which begins for us and for all Israel, that it be blessed and fruitful, for each and every one, as well as for the members of his family.

Jews all bear a collective responsibility. Moreover, the word Arev, guarantor, also means sweet, pleasant, and the second meaning is the consequence of the first (see, on this subject, letter no. 789). This pleasant character enables each one to willingly bear the responsibility for others. Thus is introduced the third meaning of this word, since Arev also means intertwined. In fact, all Jews are so, constituting thus a single entity.

Consequently, you will doubtless redouble your ardor in your communal activities, in particular in the help you bring to strengthen the institutions Ohalei Yosef Yitzchak Lubavitch in Morocco. This great merit will be the channel and the receptacle of all heavenly blessings.

לאחרי הדומי' הארוכה נעם לי לקבל מכתבו מערב הוש"ר... וברך לקחתי ואשיבנו ממחרת שבת בראשית, בראשית השנה הבאה עלינו ועל כל ישראל טובה שתהי' שנה מבורכת ומוצלחת בכל אחד ואחת בעניניו ועניני ב"ב שיחיו, וכיון שכל ישראל ערבים זב"ז, הרי נוסף על הפי' כפשוטו ערבים מלשון ערבות, הרי ערב[ות] זו באה ע"י הענין השני שבמלת ערבים מלשון עריבות ונעימות שעי"ז מקבל כל אחד ברצון ערבות בעד חבירו, ובמילא ג"כ הענין השלישי שבמלת ערבים מלשון מעורבים זע"ז אשר כולם יחד הם קומה שלימה.

הרי מתאים לזה בודאי יוסיף ג"כ כת"ר כח ועוז בעסקנות צבורית בכלל, ובעזר להחזקת המוסדות הק' אהלי יוסף יצחק ליובאוויטש אשר במרוקה בפרט, וגדול זכות השתדלותו בזה להיות צנור וכלי לברכות השי"ת מעל.
