To the distinguished Chassid* who fears Hashem, the Rav Shmuel (Rav Sh. Lubachitski),
Greetings and blessing,
I learned with pleasure, through the Rav, distinguished Chassid* who fears Hashem, Rav Yochanan (Rav Y. Gordon), administrator of the Lubavitch synagogue, in Lubavitch (the synagogue of the Rebbe, at 770 Eastern Parkway, in New York), that you led the services during the propitious moments of the Days of Awe* (Rosh Hashanah* and Yom Kippur*) this year.
As you know, Rashi* comments the verse (Mishlei 3:9): "Serve Hashem by your goods," in these terms: "Do not read Mehonecha, by your goods, but Migronecha, by your throat (by singing for Him)." The Zohar*, volume 2, page 93a, proposes another reading of the word Mehonecha: "By your grace and by the harmony of the song."
May Hashem cause that these prayers, together with all the other prayers of Israel, produce their effect throughout the year, materially and spiritually.
Likewise, I saw with satisfaction that you also applied this verse in its literal sense, Mehonecha, by your goods — that is, by your money — since you transmitted an amount to the tzedakah* fund. This, at my request, was transmitted to the bureau of confidential actions, which is one of the most elevated forms of tzedakah*.
May Hashem bless you, as well as your wife, in all your needs, material and spiritual.

נהניתי להודע מהרה"ח אי"א נו"נ עוסק בצ"צ מוה"ר יוחנן שי', גבאי דבית הכנסת ליובאוויטש בליובאוויטש מאשר עבר לפני התיבה בימי רצון ימים הנוראים דשנה זו, וכבר ידוע מרז"ל כבד את ה' מהונך אל תקרי מהונך אלא מגרונך (רש"י משלי ג' ט') ובזהר ח"ב צ"ג ע"א מהונך, מחינך וחודה דנגונא, ויה"ר שהתפלות בתוך תפלות שאר ישראל יפעלו על כל השנה כולה הן בגשמיות והן ברוחניות.
כן נהניתי ממה שקיים כתוב הנ"ל כפשוטו מהונך ממונך ומסר הסכום לקופת צדקה אשר ע"פ הוראתי נמסר ללשכת חשאין אחת המעלות הכי נעלות בצדקה, והשי"ת יברכו ואת זוגתו שיחיו בהמצטרך להם בגשמיות וברוחניות.
