To the members of the community of (this letter was sent to several synagogues, between 5 and 27 Marcheshvan*), may Hashem grant you long life,
Greetings and blessing,
I was pleased to receive your news. I hope that, as far as you are concerned, all is well and that you are at peace, materially and spiritually.
Recently, a new year has begun and one has started again the reading of the Torah from Bereishis, "In the beginning Hashem created." Our books explain that a Jew must imbue himself with this reading. He must therefore (when he begins again the reading of the Torah) adopt a new organization regarding "the heavens" — spiritual concerns — and "the earth" — material activities.
A Jew must know that "Hashem created." Our Sages say, indeed, in the tractate Sukkah* 52a, that "if one did not come to his aid, he would not be able" (to overcome the evil inclination). HaKadosh Baruch Hu* indeed comes to one's aid and He enables one to put into practice the good resolutions that each person takes during the month of Tishrei*, so that these are followed by effect throughout the year.
Regarding a synagogue, the situation, however good it may have been in the past, can always be improved. One can multiply the public teachings. And I hope that Tehillim* are recited every morning after the prayer, that the funds of the synagogue are used to give tzedakah* for sacred concerns.
In this way, those who pray in this synagogue can be even more enthusiastic and passionate when, leaving this place, they return home. In this way, they multiply the blessings of Hashem in all their needs, as well as in those of the members of their family.
With my blessing for a good winter and success throughout the year,
